Are all simmers limp wristed girly men?
« on: November 02, 2000, 10:19:00 AM »
Asked this question in hardware but... Just wore out the last of my TM PFCS joysticks.... Ok, so what do I use now? Every stick
I've tried has springs weaker than those found in most ball point pens.

I would like to keep my ch pro throttle and TM rudders. I just ordered a CH Combatstick
to get me by till something with some springs in it comes out that is of decent quality but
I know from past use that the springs will be frustratingly weak on the combatstick. Why
doesn't CH either make a stick with some springs in it or at least with adjustable spring
tension?   Does anyone make a stick that is sturdy, easy to program with no bizzare software glitches and has either springs for an adult male or... adjustable spring tension?

Do you think that the CH stick is so limp wristed and effeminate because it was modeled after the 190?

Take some suspension springs from an old Chevy and replace your JS springs with them.  Next reinforce the JS by bolting 1/8" steel plates over the plastic in the necessary places.  Finally buy a steel desk and weld your new "manly" JS to it.  Then you can stop whining about it.

Kwan,

I think "popeye arms" is what he's trying to avoid.

The problem is that since his most recent divorce, Lazs has been doing a lot of "wrist exercising".  His forearms are so overdeveloped that any stick will feel wimpy to him.

With the force feedback sticks you can set the "return to centre" tension, which basically means the stiffness.  There is no force feedback in AH yet, but I still use mine for just that reason, I don't like the return to centre of a normal stick.  If you leave it the higher stiffness, you can barely move it.

Yep I got a FF stick too. My old sticks feel like moving pencils through the air now

I love the FF sticks too, but not because of the above mentioned, but because you can turn _off_ all forces. This feels much more like flying a real plane to me, no fake pressure neatly centering the stick for you, you have to find the center yourself, or can leave the stick off-center if you like. Much better  .

Now if I could have that combined with stall buffering and some decent pedals, I'd be in hog heaven  .

if you wnat tough springs you gotta get the thrustmaster (or whatever they're called now) f22 (with digital conversion).  guaranteed your wrist will possitively ache after a half hour or so!

unfortunately... hooligan, funked and pop all know me personally and have me pegged... that asside.... Will the suncom thingie bolt up easily and will I be able to use it without hiring a programer?   F22 was ok for spring tension (little weak) but TM stuff breaks and they don't even make it anymore and it has all kinda extra connects and a bible thick manual..

Oh, funked.. I have taken your advise and have taken to left handed sex and have started to wear my right arm in a sling so as  to better atrophy the muscles.   I should be able to use the CH ladystick in a couple of months if I lose enough muscle.   Hooli exagerates... The leaf spring I used in the TM stick was not a manly chevy.. It came out of some wussy foriegn car... Hardly any tension at all.   And pop... pop still does pithy better than anyone.   He shoulda been one of them there "hi coo" poets.

CH?  Great stuff, very durable.  Clumsy and wussy tho.... Combatstic?  bah... outta rename it "ladystick"  The 190 influence is obvious.

Anyone got an old TM PFCS or 6 left over they wanna sell?

All US joysticks are merely copies of the first Fw stick invented in 1924.
