Observation from the sidelines-
You know you're a newbie when you think that duels with cartoon airplanes actually mean anything? Ok, that doesn't really work, does it. Strike that, bad example.
I have always thought the "duel" thing was kind of weird (
no offense to a specific person or group is intended, of course). So you challenge someone to a duel and you
a) kick his arse. Now you are the "winner," but what exactly have you won? If I challenged someone to a duel over a disagreement about the moon being made of green cheese and I won, does this give credibility to my outlandish claim? Like I said, weird.
b) lose the duel. You are disgraced beyond measure and no matter what the duel was about your credibility is in the trash can? The guy who lost the green cheese duel was actually right, but since he lost the duel the community will be forced to admit the moon IS green cheese? Silly.
Why not challenge someone to a Monopoly (TM) or Scrabble (TM) duel? Arm wrestling? Darts? Acey Duecy? Makes just as much sense as fighting cartoon airplanes.
Post-count duel? Hey, how about a bombastic rhetoric duel! Oh, y'all are doing that one already. How do you decide who is the winner?
