How many ex-WBers do we have here?
« on: December 06, 2001, 03:22:00 AM »
I’ve just started in Aces High, and I’m bumping into former WB players all over the place. I’m interested to know the IDs of all the former WB subscribers, and why they came to Aces High.

I will start the ball rolling. I was in WB for almost four years. It was great for the first 15 months, until version 2.6 and then the problems started  :( I carried on for another two years, but got frustrated waiting for WB3. When it finally arrived, it was incomplete, difficult to download and configure, and needed an expensive upgrade. I have other reasons for leaving WB, but I don’t want to flame here.

I'm flying both games. So I haven't left WB. But I find both games fun in their way.

mrsidl -> Wb 2.7x

I quit wb when they neutered the ACA - it was easymode but it was cheap and we had fun there.. I was waiting for WBIII to subscribe finally but the day seemed endlessly far.

Then I heard about Aces High, tried it and loved it immediately even though I got slaughtered on my 2 free weeks.

I stayed in H2H for a year or so to learn the ropes  ;)

Ok, I didn't have the money/time to subscribe  :)

This thread ran a few weeks ago:

"Ex Warbirders, Lets see a show of hands"

I think it was before you made your first appearance here on the board scrmble.

Count me, daddog, teeerex, vaderr, and a bunch of other mongrels in.

We moved over to AH shortly after it went pay for play a year & a half ago. Was rocky times at first but it has paid off I believe.

While I though warbirds was good AH blows it's socks off in customer service, speed of upgrades/features.

Scrmbl. Sorry to see ya leave WB, though I won't miss you cussing me out.  :)

The same things you slam on WB for can also be said about AH when it first arrived...

Quote
it [WBIII] was incomplete, difficult to download and configure, and needed an expensive upgrade

When AH was first introduced, it was incomplete, too. And I could not run AH on my old computer (and didn't want to spend money on an expensive upgrade at the time), but I sure could run WB 2.77 just fine and did so until last August before I upgraded the old 200 MHz Pentium Pro.

I had very little problems getting WBIII up and running on my new computer and any problems I did have were the result of my failures (i.e. not all the MB drivers were loaded hehe)

A 90 meg file is not difficult to download, it may take a long time if you are a modem-boy like me, but there is no extra labor involved for you. Just start the download at night and in the morning you are set.  :) Not sure why you had problems downloading. ???

Anyway, there is really no purpose for you to announce your reasons for leaving WB. That is begging to start flames. Why not just say "Hi, I'm here from WB and hope I enjoy this sim, any other ex-WBers here?"

Hope you have fun here at AH. Good luck! <S>

flew W/B's from Feb.98..  When the Mongrels moved here, I came along,  Haven't looked back since..

While I was at W/B's, I read the Book "Warbirds, The Story so Far". By Proghet, DocDoom, Krod & Burbank.  It gives the History starting from CK to W/B's.  When the Grapevine Texas group refused to swallow an ultimatum, they fought back by what they do best.  They Created Aces High.  ;)

When the Best that came from the best created the Best, Alway go with the Best.    ...Te...

Scrmbl read the thread that DejaVu posted a link to.  There are a lot of us here.  I still fly WB sometimes, and I think I see more old WBers (guys I flew with when I started in '96) in AH than in WB.
