Posting this here b/c I'm not sure if you are still reading the Terrain Editor forum.  Others may benefit from this as well.

Now I think I see what your complaint about the map for the Great Lake is.  You are saying that the view in MapMaker is very light b/c the elevation is pretty much the same?  If so, here are some suggestions:

1.  Change the contrast value under the Display Settings tab (click on the '+').  If you bump up the contrast it will accentuate the roughness.  See http://www.cris.com/~reaper/greatlakes.jpg
I also moved the light source location (the little ball) in the display settings area.  I just guessed at the contrast and light direction, if you play with them you may find a setting you like better.

2.  You can change to the cover data plot and use that as the basis for your map.  This will show the location of the water as well as cities.

Let me know if this helps,

What I do with PSP is under capture/setup, I tell it to do a full screen capture on a right-button-click.  Then I go to capture/start, bring up MapMaker (from the background, with map already all set up) then right-click on it.

This brings a shot of the entire screen into PSP.  From PSP I select only the map section, and then crop-to-selection.

I use the whole screen capture mode b/c I find with MapMaker and PSP both running the mouse skips too much on the screen to use the capture-area option.

There is a section in the AH Editor help that explains how to turn this pic into your clipboard map.

I was thinking Rock-N-Roll.

Detroit -VS- Cleaveland.

I figured Buffalo for the Eastern Front (Weather approximate to Russsia.)

I guess that Toronto will be London and Quebec French.
