Not all UN bureaucracies are bad and inefficient.  The French invented the metric system, but they no longer control it. A group of societies down at Saclay south of Paris work for the UN, have diplomatic status and do a good job of guaranteeing a single standard of measure for the whole world.
In a case like that, UN administration means allowing a group of technicians to do their work without political interference.

Now, ICANN is a private corporation contracted by the US government to be a name registry. Nobody wants their infrastructure controlled by another country, and particularly one that flaunts international law and uses all means available to punish countries it doesn't like.  So sure, I say take the ICANN folks, give them diplomat status, nice CD plates on their cars, put them on the payroll of the UN with the charter to maintain the infrastructure of the internet and leave them alone.

Now, spam is a problem that's gonna need a global solution.  It may be that "they'll always find a way around", but the current spam traffic is costing billions of dollars.

And yet you still find it necessary to clutter our US owned and operated board.

Maybe the UN can develope it's own type of internet, then force people to use it by resolutions ( backed by force of course) . I'm sure the UN can come up with something more popular than the failed internet.

so noone knows where anythign really is like on the normal internet .. it just is ....

think that's basicly how it works ... been awhile since i thought about it  ....so might have gotten some wrong :)

idea then was ... "what's this good for" .... well maybe our freedom :aok

here found link

you gotta be kiddin me oct....

The conference that the UN is doin now is mostly to try and get some 3rd world countries ACCESS to the INTERNET and HOW the UN can help them ACHIEVE this goal.....

The UN proposed a WORKING GROUP to supervise the distribution of money to help these countries....

anyways, thats my understanding I got from papers and the news.

OCT.....are you telling me you don't know that the NSA is doin this.....from the comment you made.....I guess not....you better start informing yourself about your own Govr's devices.

Nice assumption.

Do you actually think any news organization will report "NSA SPIES ON CITIZENS" ??  Does the FBI openly talk about bugs?  What is the NSA?  National Security Agency.  Why openly declare spying?

I can't believe you gathered all that just from my sarcastic comment.  You're smarter than that; I'd think you can see past the humor.

sorry OCT...no assumption there

I didn't gather anything....its the knowledge I had....or more likely what I understand right now about that conference.

as for the NSA.....well now...thats pretty common knowledge all around....and I'm sure they do more then we think.....just pick up the phone and say....I really hate the president....I wanna kill em'....and voila....NSA's super computers will record that:D
