from games, how is it possible? Don't mean to ripoff a certain other game from el ruso, but I want that P51D engine sound.
Is it doable with a hex ed.?

the sounds are packed in a single file, extracting them is what I need. They aren't compatible with any compression app I have either.

i have a sound blaster card when i hear a sound i like i Use sound blaster recorder trun it on in "what you hear" modes running in background and load game and then start engine of plane i want (start.wav)then I fly it then let it cruise  for (engine.wav) then land and shut down. for(engoff.wav) then  i close game and turn off recorder take file to a simple wave editor(i found a free one on zdnet) cut and save each part i want then i have all parts to that planes sound file.

Microsofts Sound recorder stops after a bit. Sound blasters recorder plays till you stop it. it is the easiest way to get sounds for me anyways

Soundpad. 1.09  this is the one i use for editing sounds it is easy and works well for Ah sounds

For your information. You can harvest and implement any sound from any game into any sound file in AH.
What u need is...audio in/out cable $5.99 at best buy
A collection of flight sims for you puter.
Windows sound recorder.
A sound editing program such as 'goldwave' (shareware is free)
Say you are playing Il-2, and you think the sound of the 109 kicks arse. You want to use that sound for your AH109.
1. get windows sound recorder (start/programs/accessories/entertainment/soundrecorder) onto your desktop. Dont do anythign with it yet, you only get 60 seconds of record time.
2. Load the game that contains the arse kicking sound.
3. Get into a situation within the game where you can isolate the sound without any other noise pollution. (I usually fly way off course or the free flight is good so u dont get the lietenant *****ing).
4. When you isolate the kick arse sound and you are hearing it within the game, pause the game.
4b. plug one end of the audio in/out cable into the 'microphone' jack in your computer, and the other end into 'headphone' jack.
5. Hit the 'windows' key to get to your desktop.
6. Press the record button on windows sound recorder.
7. Return to the game.
8. Unpause it.
You are now recording the sound that was blasting when you paused the game in step 4. You can record for up to 60 seconds.
The sounds are recorded in .wav format as AH sounds are so they are 100% compatible.
9. After at least 10 seconds return to windows desktop and stop recording, if it is still recording.
10. file/ save as/ e.g. il-2_109raw
You may have to alter your sound settings in control panel to get a clean sound. For example, i had to decrease my 'line in' setting to about 15% to get a clean sound. You can always increase the volume in the sound editing program. Experiment, everyones system is different.
11. After you have a clean sound byte, you need to plug it in to AH format.
Im getting groggy so if anybody is interested, post and i will give directions on how to do that.

Method 2.
Cfs1 and cfs2 are .wav format so you can navigate to the sound files in those programs, find one you like, copy, then paste the sound in the appropriate folder in AH.  Only incompatibility with these sounds I have found is the stereo gun sounds dont work in AH.  (Ah is single channel only for guns).
Also the gun sounds are a bit different since AH uses a single shot.  CFS1 and 2 uses a burst.  Bursts work in AH and I believe sound better but they have to be editted to fit butt to butt without haveing a space.
For example if I lay in the guns for 5 seconds i may have my burst file repeat 3 times.  If not editied right it sounds like this.
da da da da     da da da da   da da da da.  If edited it sounds like this  da da da da da da da da da da da da.

example:  I like the .50's in CFS2.  I navigate to cfs2\aircraft\50_cal.   I then highlight 50_cal and copy.
Then I goto c:\program files\HTC\sounds\p51d  Paste the 50_cal in the folder, then I have to rename 50_cal to m2_x where x represents the number of machine guns firing.   M2 is one gun, m2_2 is 2 guns. m2_3 is 3 or 4 guns, m2_4 is 5 or more guns.
  (I think).
