Skuzzy, can you answer a few VOX questions
« on: December 22, 2003, 10:16:39 AM »
Skuzzy

Are their any special ports required to be open, or background applications that would cause VOX to drop after a certain amount of time?

I have nights where it lasts an hour, and some, 45 minutes.  Its annoying to have to log out and log in again to get it back...and really not quite possible if you loose it midstream in a long buff or goon sortie.

Thanks...

Seems to me that vox is a separate program that conflicts with some specific chipsets. I'm not sure, but the same people in my squad always seem to lose vox regularly. I'm running a DFI LAN Party KT400A and I never seem to lose vox.

Same with 4Wing, same people lose vox over and over throughout the night. My vox never goes out though....it's really wierd.

I do lose vox occasionally and i am convinced it happens when some people transmit and it knocks it out.
However a quick alt tab out and back in cures it.

339th is the same way.

We have 2 pilots that specifically lose it all the time.

Very odd!  They have done the quick fixes, upgrading DirectX, upgrading drivers, and turning Hardware Acceleration Down 1 or 2 notches.  It helped a coupla guys but......some it didn't.

If this helps, I am personally runnning a TB Santa Cruz and have never lost VOX.

If the same people are constantly losing vox and others not it has to be either sound card or chip set.....makes sense right?:D

ya .. squad CO JB42 loses vox all the time. a couple others in squad too.

i think i have lost vox MAYBE 1 time in the last year.

i get the "frozen key-up" or whatever where somone stays keyed up on my front end about once a week... but just alt-esc out of the game and come back in everything's ok.

JB42 has his ound accel down to zero to try and combat this.

will let you know.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I wish there was a good answer for this.  It's the most inconsistent problem there is.

It does seem to effect squad channel more than anything else.

I could easily see other applications causing problems, if they use sound for something and are ill-behaved about sharing the sound card, in the Windows environment.
HT has gone over it and over it.

Anti-virus programs will definately aggrevate the issue.  Firewalls might aggrevate it.  Limited bandwidth connections could aggrevate it.  Onboard sound devices will definately make it worse, particularly the AC97 devices.

Other than that, I do not know what to say.  There is not a firm fix nor answer I can give to anyone.

I never have a problem until the MA gets over 450-475 players. Then my vox goes out intermitantly. I can play in CT or MA when numbers in 2-300s for hours with no problem. Log in primtime with 500+ nowadays and vox goes out about every 1/2 to 1 hour. It is a bummer having to log out and in alot. I would even guess that adds to the problem for other too? My $0.02...
