There are positions where you can swap and shop as much as you like, and positions where you can't.  I believe it was you who was asking specifically about runningbacks.  I challenge you to find a single runningback that could compete for a starting position that is not currently playing for a team.  Hell... I won't even go the extra mile to ask you to find one that's white.

Read your own message.  You said coaches are not hired based on performance.  I listed several counter-examples, guys who teams hired because they had proven winning records in the NFL.

MiniD, the white HB thing was a joke.  It's ironic because if the NFL applied the same logic to HB jobs as they do to front office jobs, they would fine any team that did not give a white RB a tryout every time an HB slot opened up.

You attempted to dismiss the similarity between the two situations by saying that all player hirings are performance based (which I refuted, as there are many examples of coaches bringing in "their guy" based purely on intangible factors) and by saying that coach hirings are not performance based (which is demonstrably untrue in the case of the coaches I listed).  Either address my counter examples or admit defeat.  Or you can just declare victory regardless of the facts, in which case you shall henceforth be known as MiniDrip.

Hmm...drunk minds think alike Funked. I just mentioned this to a friend like a week ago. If they want to force teams to interview minorities for coaching and front office jobs, they should require teams to tryout white players at every position dominated by minorities. Seems only fair.

Either that or they could let teams hire who the hell they want and stay out of it.

Yep and they resolved it just fine, all by themselves, without any racist edicts from league HQ.

Just fine for who? If the league had not been so chicken**it about the "negro question" Jackie Robinson might still be alive today. Maybe we'd have had more minority representation in management much sooner.

Maybe Little Rock would have integrated eventually without the Supreme Court, but it was still the right thing to do.

What I'm saying is that baseball owners and management realized that performance is more important than skin color, without resorting to any quotas or other racist mechanisms, like the NFL is using now.

Sure they could have made it happen sooner, but using racism to fight racism is pretty obviously a bad idea, not the right thing to do.

I think it's beautiful the way it happened.  The teams that had the balls to hire black players got a competitive advantage over the morons who maintained all-white teams out of hate.  Justice prevails.

If baseball had been integrated sooner, guys like Bonds and Sosa would have been chasing a certain guy named Josh Gibson instead of Babe Ruth.  The Cy Young may have been called the Satchel Paige.

Baseball has a history that rivals the US military in terms of segregation and exlusion of minorities (IIRC, I think they even started getting integrated about the same time).  So holding baseball up as a model of racial equality is something that should really be done with a grain of salt.

Of course, there is better representation in the coaching/managerial ranks in baseball, but its still pretty crappy in the front office.

Still the stupidest argument I've seen funkypants.  I don't know how else to say it.

Plantation workers: 100% black
Plantation owners: 100% white

That's the perception... that's what leagues are trying to fight.  The image of the league is the primary concern.  Unfortunately, with individual owners, that doesn't really carry much weight as long as the rest of the owners can meet the "quota".

The great irony of the situation is what Jimmy The Greek said... "Blacks were bread to be strong, not to think."  It wasn't what he said, it's that he said it out loud.  The NFL has yet to prove they don't subscribe to that theory.

Once again, runningbacks are not hired because they are black.  They are hired because of what they can do for the team.  There just isn't much room on the field for dead weight.  I dare you to say the same about the front office.  I dare you to say that neputism, image and obligation do not drive the hiring in that area.  Hell... I bet qualifications rank down around 4th on the list.

Hey... you work for your dad don't you funkypants?
