P38 wep problem
« on: January 04, 2004, 09:38:25 AM »
I'm likely not the first to mention this (even tho I did a massive search on the BBS for it), but the P38 has a problem other than its flaps coming up at speed. :D

Simply put, if the P38's #1 goes out, you cannot wep the #2. If your #2 goes out, you can still wep the #1 engine. I know from historical reading that  the #1 controlled the battery charge, but wep was independent of each engine.

Am I wrong, or am I not the first one to find this?

I have noticed this as well. While I do not know what a 38 was like back in the day, I do know that when I have an engine out, and am forced to continue fighting, I would like WEP on the single engine. Hopefully WEP will work on seperate engines in AHII.

There have been a few times that WEP has worked on my remaining engine but most of the times it's like Delirium describes.  I don't know why sometimes WEP will work.

Does it do this on all twin engined fighters, or is it unique to the P-38?

I've flown both engines independently of each other to have the same effect of not having WEP on one engine but having it on the other.

I sometimes kill an engine to save fuel when I rtb, if you're wondering.
