Of course it's not okay to speak to a cell phone in a theathre unless you do it very discretily. OTOH you can use your mobile in other ways than speaking to it, SMS and web services mainly. What's the problem of using their mobiles without making any noise? If you start jamming the phones it will also hurt the 95% of people that know how to use their phones in a dicreet manner.

How exactly (without night vision) do you use your phone in a discrete manner in a movie theater with the possible exception of sitting in a deserted back row?

And not that it's really any of my business, but I'm curious...why would you be surfing the web on your phone during a movie?

Mora, do you use your speakerphone in movie theaters or something?  ;)

It's a private theater - they can do what they want.  If they put in cell phone jamming/blocking equipment, they'll either attract more customers or drive them off.  It's for them to figure out.

I know which one I'd be more likely to go to though.

You are offended byt he light of the phone and yet the guy next to you is farting, eating popcorn and drinking soda. To me that is far more distracting.

I would not have any reason to surf the web or send email during the movie. Maybe the guy next to me was able to come to see the movie because he didn't have to stay in his office because of his communicator.

I'm pretty sure our differences are caused by the cell phone using public over there who clearly doesn't have very good manners. But they will learn it over time.

Well, yeah, when a light flashes on and I see it out of the corner of my eye, I'm distracted.  Generally, I'm the one farting, so that doesn't bother me...I'm pretty sure everyone else enjoys the aroma as well. :)  Not bothered by popcorn, as that's just part of the movie experience, however if they had the technology to make people mute during movies I might go for that too.

I'm probably a jerk, but I don't have much sympathy for the guy who can't live without his work for an hour and a half.  If his work or whatever else he has going is that important he probably shouldn't be in the movie anyhow.

I switch on my RWR (radar warning reciever) every time I drive my truck.  Having ECM to jam cell phones would be very neat.

However, what if you jammed someone who was calling 911 to report an accident or a medical emergency?

And that is one of the reasons the FCC doesn't like them.  ;)

cell phones will go the way of the smoker ... special rooms and bars for them to gather at :)

most ppl, read females & flakes, have a phone pressed to their ear as they are scared of the silence. same reason others drive around blasting their brains out with highly distorded noise they call music...

no one is that important. put ur phone or pager on vibrate and leave the room to take care of your call if it can't wait. I don't need ur second hand noise...

Quick little story...I took the guys in the shop out to lunch one day and as we sat there waiting on our food and talking and having fun some handsomehunk dials his cellphone and starts screaming into it. Our welder (who is nearly 6'4" 250lbs and rough as 80 grit sandpaper but soft spoken when he needs to be) politely stood up and walked over and asked the gentleman (who was not in business clothing) to please talk lower. The guy looked at him and gave him the finger. At that point our welder lost his cool and in as nice a tone as possible asked the man to take his call outside. At this point the guy hangs up and says "SURE!" Well as Craig turns to walk away the salamanders phone rings again and the guy answers it but never leaves his table. Craig let this happen once more then walked over with his water glass while the man was on the phone making an a** of himself. Craig takes the phone from him and snapped it in half then drops it into the glass of water and leaves the restaurant and gets in his truck and goes back to work. The police show up about 5 minutes later and asked which one of us caused the problem. At this point I am standing outside on my company cell phone (only used for business when I am outside of the office) when the salamander walks up and decides to get into a shouting mood with me. As I explain to the police what happened to his phone they started laughing and told the dumb salamander to go home and forget about his phone. Moral of the story police in Pelham, AL don't like it when people use cell phones in restaurants either...:)

A high amount of radar waves make cellphones explode.

I think it's a lot funnier to see some of these Traffic phones explode.

These are a great idea.  Someone talking on the cell phone is much more dangerous than someone trying to figure out why their cell phone isn't working.

First they work as hell to get cell-phone "coverage" everywhere you go, and then they develop technology to take away the "coverage" (might not be the right word).

I find this hillarious as hell!!! LOL!

Soon there must be enough radio waves, micro waves et al that we all will get a nice brown tan by default :)
