I'm quite annoyed ....
« on: November 03, 2000, 02:23:00 AM »
After one month fighting and dying nicely in the canyon (and other places I can die everywhere   ) I'm not enjoying the current terrain  ...

I dislike flying 10/15 minutes to be get to combat zone then spending 10 fighting and having to RTB because the fuel multiplier is so high that my trusty Typhoon/Yak is out of fuel   even if I take of with full fuel.

For me the solutionS can be :
  • DROP TANK for the typhoon (this is historical! I have the proof it as been used  )
  • revert to the beta map
  • give up AH .

The other thing that *@^*ù*^ me is the strato fight this map implie ...

Regards
Frédéric

I dont like beta-map. The respawning of tanks and flak-panzer so close to airfields is almost quake-ish.

Instead, I like AH dogfighting style. Here alt is life indeed, even more than in WarBirds. Just one thing: ban late war aircraft!
"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown

I've badly explained I'm just speaking of aerial warfare not "bug scrapping"  .
And a tank is not an dangerous opponent but those FP are boring ...

Effectively some @@*ù$^$ use their ostwind as Vulching Machine and deserve all respect !
Why don't they ask a trainer to learn taking-off ? or use auto-take off ...

Historically the Tiffie fuel sucked.

I remember in the beta the 51 fuel would last for hours. You could fly real BnZ missions for hours, and I remember the Rooks putting up reward posters one night when I trolled around potting away at them flying up and down the map over and over.

Fuels just right for gameplays sake.

That may be, but historically I suspect it had target it could hit and return to base with the fuel it had.

We were attacking 19 last night and from both 23 and 20 (the nearest bases we had to it) I had used more than 2/3 of my fuel just to get there =(

By the time I'd made my bomb drop on the hangers and straffed a couple of aaa there was absolutly no way I get back to a friendly base with the fuel I had =(

As a result I loitered a bit more there than I normally would, hoping for a capture before my fuel ran out.

You are trolling me ?
It's complete bullsh*t !
I'm curious to now how many fuel you need in a 51 to go to the nearest base have a 10 minutes fight with wep and rtb.
25%+DT ?

Straffo I agree 100%.  I don't like the fuel multiplier.  Historically the Yaks and Lavochkins were used as offensive weapons, to sweep enemy territory so Sturmoviks could lay the Wehrmacht to waste.  But in here the fuel multiplier means they are primarly defensive weapons.

Yes the Typhoon needs drop tanks.  I don't understand why we still don't have them.

My main problem with the fuel multiplier is that it not only effects combat radius but it effects altitude.  In real life, a climb to 25,000 feet did not use a very large percentage of a fighter's fuel.  But here you can burn nearly half a tank in such a climb!  So planes with more fuel get to climb higher and will always have an altitude advantage if the pilot is boring err "patient" enough.  That isn't how it was in the war.

As I've said b4 in other threads, quit complaining about the terrain.  You've only got to put up with it until 1.05 is released.....(bout 2 weeks).....then we'll have all new terrain with lotsa water.  If you ask HTC nicely they may even put in some canyons to fight in (hope so).

I've played with the terrain editor a little. Its speed and flexibility are amazing.  This being the case, Im amazed that they don't have a new terrain out on a TOD basis. I would think someone, who knew what they were doing, could knock one out in an hour or two.
