I've been trying to use voice for a week now with no success - i figure part of the problem is a crappy mic set.

Can anyone recommend a decent voice setup?

I'm using the microphone that came with my PC and headphones from a portable CD player that I modified to take the microphone shaft.  The shaft the mic was mounted on wasn't long enough, so I used a soda straw from McDonald's (they have bigger straws than other fast food joints), slit it and shove the wires inside, and then taped the mic to the end with electrical tape.  I then continued wrapping tape around the straw  and taped it to the black headphones.  I then wrapped tape around the headphone and microphone cords to reduce "cord clutter".  Doesn't look all that bad and works pretty well.

If you want to test your mic, use the built-in recording program (most PCs come with something) and record your voice.

Start, programs, accessorys, multimedia, soundrecorder   is where your ussually find that recorder.

 Check to make sure everything is sounding good there.

Once thats done, test in AH, should work, if it doesn't.  

Setup/voice, "use wave in"

Try switching this & test again.

If still no go its possible that you've got a iffy onboard sound card. Consider adding a cheap SB

I use a set of Yamaha MH500 cost about 50$ very comfortable, and the mic is top notch. Set it all up in windows first, get it sounding good with the "recorder" mentioned above, then you should be all set in AH.

I use a very affordable Labtec headset which works great. I put it around my neck and bend the arm of the mic up. Works great for a variety of applications.

you can type your name in for radio V to test you vox in-game.

...or type, as in my case, .radio 5 furious

...Thank you all for your help. I resolved my problem yesterday by purchasing a Logitech headset (43$ CAD) And it works like a charm ... worked so well that I talked too much.
...someone was kind enough to point this out to me with these helpful words:

I think a mickey-straw headset may be more stylish so I'm going to return it.

Just remember, its not truly stylin' until you've wrapped the black electrical tape around it from stem to stern, plus the wires for color coordination.
