Man, it took a long time to clean up that credit report...those stupid pre-approved cards from the college days, lagging a payment here and there on a car...but today I got that magic phone call saying I was approved  :)

My rent is $675, my mortgage payment, with taxes added and everything...$698.  Woohoo!

Congratulations!  I've got a happy surprise for you, when it comes to be tax time next year, you'll find that the benefits of owning a home translate out to moolah back.  Your actual monthly will end up being LOWER then your rent, based on the numbers you gave.  PLUS, the value of the home you own will increase, so there's MORE money you get back.  Owning is the way to go, congratulations!

bloody hell...I wished I payed that much a month!

The rent for our apartment is $800 a month, and we're looking for a far bigger/better place..

My wife and I are saving for a mortgage at the moment...but sydney housing prices are pretty steep...so we just keep pluggin away trying to get our deposit up as high as possible. We figure $50k plus is a good start...not far now, but with the average price of a good sydney home $500k+ it's a bit of a haul. We figure the monthly repayments to be about $1700 (average).

I hear ya Tronski, I'm waiting for the approval of our mortgage of approx 1700 Euro per month for a 400.000 Euro flat in Barcelona: 4 rooms, 2 restrooms, 100 sq. mts in total. (110 with terrace).

In Barcelona, the cheapest you can find a 100 sq. meter home is about 240.000 Euro in the outskirts. :(
