Safety key for storage, locks out the pistol from any action (located on back of grip, countersunk)

1911s are fine handguns, but they are not the best choice of firearm for many situations. Nice ones are Plentiful now, so you do not have to spend a ton of money making it into a fun shooter. The biggest draw back to the old government model is it single action system. I do not know how many times I have heard, do not shoot someone in defense of yourself or you home with a 1911, or the lawyers will get you because the action is considered unsafe. (I know there is nothing unsafe about a 1911, if you know what you are doing. But the stupidity of lawyers knows no bounds ) From that stand point a DA/SA or a DAO firearm is better.
I have been shooting 1911s since I was a kid and I would take my Sig 220 over a 1911 any day. The longer pull on the first shot does not bother me, and I have NEVER had a failure to fire that was not the ammos fault. Firearms like my sig are much better guns for people who are not Fanatical about familiarity. Hell the hammer back safety on carry mode for the 1911 still makes me a tad nervous.

Laz will prolly chime in here with the best guns for newbie’s (not saying you are Rip, just in general) is a good DA revolver. I tend to agree, if a person is not going to be very familiar with the firearm, then that’s the best route. I would only recommend a 1911, for a fun, gun or two a real fanatic about training.

I agree GTO.  Even after a lifetime of shooting and competing with 1911's, a S&W .357 is my "house" gun.

But I'd still take my Gov't Model over anything else out there.  With a CZ 75 coming in second  :)

Thats how I feel about my Sig.

I was a die hard 1911 guy, but the police reserve courses I wanted to take would not let me use a 1911, so I bought the Sig, and man, I just love it. Hardly ever shoot the 1911 anymore.

LOL bought the sig and then the JR coledge dropped the law enforment class.... :p

Hey there gun guys:
Is a 30-06 a good calibre for sniping? Sort of have a crush for one of those. (Cheap)
Maybe it's too big a jump though, been using a .22 magnum :D
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

30-06 and .308 are pretty close to the same thing. The US Army and Marine Corps. Use the .308/7.62 Nato round in most of their sniping rifles I think.

Yup, my wife shoots CZ75 (40 cal) (2 lb trigger pull) drawn from a CR rig for her IPSC competitions.  Nice gun.... :D

I use a Para 16-40 (heavily modded) drawn from a Safariland rig.

We both use "Bill Davis" modded 38 cal Model 10's for PPC competition.  Heavy, but accurate...

PD guns are Browning 9mm Hi-Power (old service gun) and Colt 45 Gold Cup, both mounted with laser sighting kit.

Regards,
Badger

The 30-06 is an ok round but you would be better off with the 308
Now keep in mind that all 30  cal rifle bulletts are 308 diameter.
there fore it can be confusiong.
the 308 with proper optics and good weather is in the hands of a good rifleman accurate to 800-100 metters.
Although I would not try and place a kill shot over 700 meters but thats just me.

Now If you really want a nice weapon try the winchester 300 mag.
Its a belted cartridge and very robust.
Also there are alot of different combos of reloads for it out there.
From mild to wild.

Recoil can be a little harse but If you install a mcmillin stock like in my pic above

And a muzzle brake you will hardly notice the recoil.
Now keep in mide there is a trade off with a muzzle brake you will have a louder muzzle report(bigger boom) but depending on wich kind you get.

most of the sound may be directed to the sides.

But for a true sniper rifle a muzzle brake on a small cal weapon is a no no.
You get away with it on a 50 cal beause you are hopefully very far away from target to begin with
