Selector, you need to do a custom "hand painting" style of job on the surfaces after all the works are finished.
What I mean by that, is the method plastic modellers use on their planes: even though plastic models come against a real world light still it looks improper - it just doesn't look like a metal plane up against sunlight.
So what the modellers do, is exaggerate the shadows and highlights with a shadow of black and white cleverly placed on the plane.
The same holds for the textures used on the skins: try overlaying a "highlight" layer above the initial skin, ie. I'd spray a weak trace of black over the ailerons and tips to kill the 'glossy' look.
