The Check 6
« on: February 06, 2004, 10:38:12 AM »
How many here have heard a fellow player blame  other fellow players for his demise because they did not render him a "Check 6"?

How many here get "Check 6's" warning them of the ac they are pursuing?

How many here get multiple "Check 6's"?

How many here get "Check 6's" for enemy AC still some 5 k away.

How many here give verbal warning of enemy ac on range channel?

Isn't the "Check 6" an anachronism left over from an AH that had no vox?

AH still has no vox 50% of the time.

ahhhh.... the ol Check 6 Command key. Yet another (over looked by, HTC, during its AH creation.......) game feature responsible for creating a hostile environment even among fellow countrymen.
:( Couple this with the with the Kill Shooter and Assist feature.......And you've got Discord among the friendly's. For shame for shame. :(  If it had NEVER been a feature...it would never have been expected or of others.

Before we had AH vox folks ASKED HT for the "check six call". It was by player request, I think.

Don't know if the BBS goes back that far.

Pyro:

Version 1.06 Released

Version 1.06 is now available.

Version 1.06

Added the P-51B, Fw 190F-8, Fw 190D-9, Yak-9T, Ta 152H-1, Arado 234B-2,
Tempest V, and La-7.

Added a new command to send "check six" warnings to your allies. This
key is defaulted to the ' key. If you've altered your keymap settings
before, you'll need to manually map this key. You can also assign this
function to a joystick button. Pressing this button will highlight the
icon of a friendly in view. Repeatedly pressing this button will cycle
through all the friendly icons in view. The call is automatically sent
one second after you finished selecting. The call will send a private
message in the text buffer and play an audio file on the recipients computer.
You cannot receive a six call from a person that you have squelched.

Hate the whiners who come on channel and say, "Thanks for the no check six".  That's funny.  It's the net, you can't trust anyone, you need to have good SA to survive in the main.  If you get a 6 call, great just helps.

I'll always give out a 6 call whenever possible by any of the previeously mentioned methods.  If you keep your country mates alive the chances of your own survival are increased.

I love giving Check 6's.  Its like getting an instant wingman.  What's kind of funny is when people complain about not getting "Check 6'd" when they're surrounded by 6 or so fellow countrymen.  Its as if they forget how long it takes to toggle through all the guys around them.  This usually happens during carrier invasions and base defenses when everyone is down low on the deck fighting in close quarters.

That's true, I've actually flipped my plane around trying to single out their icon thru a view so that I can check6 them quicker.

Doesn't always work out, but sometimes it does.

I love getting check 6's... always try to thank the person.  I used to whine when I didn't get a check 6.  Gave it some thought and realized that sometimes one is too busy to get the view properly set for a check6.. a host of other reasons...
Now, I'm always appreciative when someone takes the time to give me one.

I usually give verbal check 6's.  It's almost easier to key up and say, for example:  "Mugz, hot f6 on you from your high 7.", than it is to center someone in your view, then press the "check 6" key.

Plus, in my mind, my info is more helpful than the generic keyboard warning.

I've heard people whine about getting too many check 6's.  As if the people around him should take the time to coordinate just who is going to send the warning.   :D

I try and give Check6's whenever I can, but sometimes it's just not possible..... there may be so many others around, it's difficult to find the right one, and I end up sending it to the wrong person (who then demands to know why!) or if I'm in an Osty and have the gunsight fully zoomed, I often don't see it attack another friendly until it's too late!  If I die to an unseen enemy on my 6, I only ever blame myself for not using SA and being aware of everything around me at all times - usually through target fixation!  I would certainly not start blaming everyone else for my untimely death.  :)

I always give a verbal check6 when I see the situation. Only time I use the check6 key is when I can't read the name, can't pronounce the name, or their name is a set of 8 numbers - "number guys" probably get less check6s than most beacause of the name.

Sometimes I am not looking in someone's direction, they get wacked, and as they plummet to earth, they thank me for the NOT check6.

Just because you are in the general area of someone, don't expect them to ALWAYS be keeping an eye on your 6.
