Ok I see why the F4U1C is ANNOYING
« on: December 27, 2000, 09:17:00 PM »
I just reinstated my account and I have been having a blast. However, nothing is more annoying/disturbing/frustrating than getting nailed by an f4u1c. 1 ping and wham your dead.. maybe 2 pings if you're lucky. Within 0.1 secs your 1/2 hour mission is destroyed.

This plane can turn like a spitfire, and has guns that are more lethal than an fw190.

So fine, if there were only a few of these flying around it wouldn't affect the arena. However, as we all know 50% of the aircraft out there (if not more) are f4u1c's. I'm always dodging some maniac in an f4u1c diving on me in a headon/deflection or whatever, not caring about ammo and just spraying/praying for that 1 lucky ping.

You can read this and say, "awe heck, he just doesn't know how to fly.. or he's just whining." Well you might be right on both counts but I've been flying these sims for around 5 years now and I have found the f4u1c unavoidable when it comes at you - especially if the guy is spraying. What do you think some poor guy off the street who just got AH is thinking ?

My vote is to add some weight to this puppy so it doesn't turn so well (how good can a loaded f4u1c fly with 1200 rounds of 20mm ammo anyways!??), reduce the ammo loadout somehow, or make the damn things perk planes.

Otherwise, I'll just be joining the quake club and fly my own f4u1c - spraying and praying for that 1 lucky ping

Dont forget to put the flame vest on, Haha, you are going to collect some good flames here

but I agree with you, with the navy the Chog on MA have multiplied x3. REally annoying to see dozens of turbolazer planes flying alltogether

Curious, how do you know all those F4's are 1C's and not 1D's?  Been flying the hell out of the 1d because of the perk point multiplier, myself.

HaHa:

Your post leaves a lot to be desired regarding facts.  Half or more of the arena planes are not 1Cs.  It does not turn as well as a Spit, nor does it carry 1200 rounds of ammunition.  Nice rant though.

I've been Flying the Dhog too, but not because the perk thing, but because I always have liked the corsairs, not the uberLaser UFO the Chog is here

but to answer your question, dont worry, a Chog is easily discernible...if you find urself flying without a wing thanks to a single ping, the enemy was a Chog

I'm sure the perk's have attracted quite a few pilots, but you have to ask what historical precedence it has?

The plane might OUTFLY a Spitfire if well flown, but it sure as hell isn't going to turn just like one.  That's nonsense.  And yes, it (rightly) has more lethal guns than a 190.

In any sim theres going to be a plane at the "top of the food chain",for MA madness it`s currently the F4U1C, I suggest you fly the P-51D if your having problems with the chog.

Hehe I think it flies like/similar/close to a spitfire. Of course, it couldn't turn with a spitfire, but it doesn't have to, all it has to do is get one single burst with its laser guns.

You're right though, it has 800 rounds, not 1200 (for some reason I thought it had 6x20).

Comment remains though, many f4us makes MA just a wee bit disturbing ;0

Well of course the observation that a chog turns like a Spit is wrong. (spelled B-u-l-l-s-h-i-t)

What's even more silly is this statement-

I've been flying these sims for around 5 years now and I have found the f4u1c unavoidable when it comes at you - especially if the guy is spraying.

5 years and they are still unavoidable in the HO? You got to be kidding.

If he's firing at you, your already setting up your merge and that huge peice of blue toejam is in big trouble when you are pulling through your lead turn as hes blowing this critical time pointing his nose at you in a highly unlikley spray... I mean snap shot.

I think there are some online guides on ACM that are less than 5 years old. Might wanna read one, cuz you'll be able to avoid chogs in no time.

I wonder how you feel about the HO Monster 190A8? Now THAT plane is a laser equipped anti Osti- anti everything HO flying ammo bunker that has panzer metal for skin. Plus its a hell of lot easier to fly than a Chog.

The day people wake up to this the arena is in trouble.

I literally can't remember the last time I got hit on a merge where I intended to deny a shot.

By ANY plane type.

As long as six .50 brownings can slice a plane in two at convergence I could care less about the quad 20s on the Chog.

Thanks for fixing me .50s!

I have no problem with the C-hog itself.  I also tend to beleave one of its best features isn't the guns, but the excelent forward visibility.  Defelection shooting is improved this way.

Seems wrong since one of the US Navy's gripes about it was poor forward visibility for carrier landings.  They went with the less capable F6F because of the better visibility (the engine is canted down a bit) and easier handeling.

I was hoping the C-hog would've been the game's first perk plane as an F4U-4C (yes a '-4' with a four bladed prop and bigger engine).  I love Corsairs, but the C-hog is overshadowing the regular D-hog.  What a shame.

Hans.
