No Pedals..What Can I Do?
« on: February 17, 2004, 07:40:17 AM »
I'm a *real* newbie so please be kind if this question is just too stupid :)

I have a CH Combat Stick and CH Throttle. I can't use pedals. I'm wondering if there is a way that would work somewhat to put that on the stick or throttle? I'm setting up my settings today and look forward to getting in there and getting beat up  :p

Is there a rocker switch you could use instead?

Several guys have tried different ways to use rudders. Doesn't have to be pedals.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

OK I'm beginning to figure it out.The AH interface isn't overly intuitive, but once you get it, it's not to bad. Now I just have to decide what buttons I want to do what. It's coming back to me. Glad they have the offline drone thing, would be embarassing if they didn't ;)

Have you considered using the mousestick on the CH Pro Throttle as a means of rudder input? Are your controllers the gameport or USB interface type? If they are USB then you could use the Control Manager 3 software to create a profile using the mousestick axis mapped in AH as rudder (remember to stick a deadband in as the mousestick is sensitive).

You can find Aces High profiles for CH gear at The CH Hangar, my profiles are there including one another user added today that uses the mousestick to change throttle input on two engine aircraft, a kind of psuedo multi-throttle control setup. If you already use the mousestick for pan view in AH no worries as you could use this CMS script to make the POV hat on the throttle to act as mouse input.

Don't like the way those profiles are setup? no problem you can download a .cmc file which will help you quickly create your own, you can find my Aces High .cmc file here.  Need help on how to use .cmc files? check out this thread.

Thanks for the tips! I'll certainly look into those. I'm still in the stage where I just like to fly around looking at stuff. Not to healthy for me, but I'm starting to get some idea how to play. :) Been sitting on boats and ack guns and just having a good old time :)

I have a related issue. I have a usb flight stick and throttle quadrant with the new CMS software. But my pedals work off the game port. AH2 recognizes the USB controls, but not the rudder pedals. While I just installed the CMS software yestreday, I don't think it's going to work with device connected to the gameport.

The operating system has to see it before Aces High can see it.  Check the game controllers ICON in the Control Panel to see if the stick/rudder is listed.

For a gameport device, you will need to load some external driver in order to use it under Windows XP, if memory serves me correctly.

Gamport and USB wont mix.

You can download the drivers from CH to make XP/2000 recognize the gameport devices ( or "legacy" devices as CH calls them), but they wont mix with the USB devices.

usb & gameport

That is certainly what I observe in my experiments.

I've ordered a cable that jumps from usb to gameport devices (made by rocketfire):

It is supposed to work with analog controls, so we'll see if it will work for these pedals...

That may actually work, but its more than just a cable.  It looks like they are using the interface to house onboard chips that will do the work of the internal chips the USB devices have.  Note though that it only works to emulate the hardware for a limited number of analog sticks, it doesnt say anything about rudder pedals, and its only compatible with Win95/98.  Let me know if you have success with it.

That's right, it has a little box which must do some kind of translating.

I'll be sure to post whether or not this works.
