banana,
For me it's a glass is half full or half empty kind of question or just a matter of persepective. You have to look in this forum for the gemstones amongst the dross as the O'Club and Help forums have the streets literaly paved with gold, (the O'club is just too funny to read at times).
In this forum anything can be an issue which, due to the lack of facial expressions or misinterpretation, can easily boil into a flame war, (or a my computer has a bigger RAM than your 'puter contest =)
The same thing happens in an email news group at my work. Over 150 "interested", (read "some appear to have time on their hands"), people subscribe to a computer-support email list and for 95% of the time it's drivel interspersed with one or two genuine enquires, (a good example of drivel was a typo of the phrase "world wipe web" which generated a dozen toilet paper related jokes). I looked at the original message, laughed at the mistake and answered privately with a solution to the real problem. The "wits" who corrected the spelling I had little time for anyway and just deleted their replies. If you can put up with the drivel the one gem that arrives each fortnight conterbalances the rest.
But I digress. If the community was more solution oriented then things would look a lot better in this forum. However we are a community and as such there are always people who believe their point of view is better than the rest, (I know mine is better than average <joke> =). The way we express that point of view will not please everyone and lead to disagreement. However there is occasionally a good point raised which we have to consider rather than just flame down.
[flame retardent coat on] Macboy's comments about porting the game to Apple computers is a problem for which there is no current solution. I feel bad that our Mac bretheren are missing out on the fun we have here but since I don't have any solution to contribute I didn't get involved. Maybe that's what we as an online community need to do more, just stand back and let the flames die naturally when we can't find an extinguisher instead of attempting to smother the fire with dynamite and napalm.
Maybe it's just that simple. Didn't we get told as children "If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything".
