A humble suggestion
« on: March 02, 2004, 10:16:03 AM »
While I was doing very limited testing on Beta 16 for the frame rate etc., it occured to me that in giving the results of tests and specifications of a computer, something important is being left out.

What is left out is how well that computer actually works. I've seen some computers with very impressive components yield some really poor performance. This includes computers I've built in the past.

I suggest that a standard benchmark test be adopted, such as one of the 3DMark tests, so that beta test results will actually be somewhat comparable. While it is nice to assume that a computer will run as well as the components would lead you to believe, it is not good to assume anything when you are testing a software application for performance.
