Skin Suggestion
« on: March 03, 2004, 08:45:26 AM »
While the automatic download if skins is nice, it does seem to affect frame rates.

How about making skin download an option from the hangar and/or tower? List available skins and let the user select the ones he wants. If he doesn't have a skin, the default is used on his machine.

I doubt it effects frame rates. Why do you think it does?

It only happens when a new "skin" is introduced in combat and im d600 from it do I get the freeze.

After that plane "skin" shows up some time later, there is no freeze....

I didn't think it would either, but when I went online while flying around with nobody else around frame rates were in the 20 to 25ish range until the downloads stopped. They then returned to 30-40ish range depending on what I was doing.

your getting that low frame rates with that setup?

first off get rid of those 53.03 drivers for that Ti 4600,  those are for the newer nvidia cards and will actually take away from G4's performance.

45.23's are the highest you need for a Ti 4600 try that and I bet your frames will go up to the 60+ range

What DXDIAG neglets to reflect is that I'm running in 1280 x 1024 mode in the game and that I have all of the sliders maxed out. :)

Yeah so i run at 1600x1200 on a Geforce 4 Ti4400 w/sliders 80 to 90%  and i get better frames than that.

BTW did you see what I mentioned about the  drivers?

I tried your theory and see no improvement in frame rate. The only thing I can figure is that you're running a patched version of the NV drivers and you have Vsync turned off for the artificial feeling of higher frame rates.

ok my FR's are only around 45-60 ... but still way higher than what you are describing.

my guess would be something else running in the background....

IF you stil get bad FR's going to the 41.09 drivers then something else is wrong.

the drivers higher than that are designed for the FX series cards... odd things happening with the Ti cards so Skuzzy says.

btw i keep my top slider in AHII (forgot which is which) at about 70% and the bottom one about 60%

great looking game for me, and i have to upgrade DirectX yet.
I don't know what to put here yet.

From what I and many have seen Resolution doesnt seem to effect frame rates very much.

Well don't know what to tell you but here it goes.
