Open letter to the Aces High Community

I have been asked by a member of the BigWeek scenario command staff to delete references to a tactical mission in the Allied message board because the board has been compromised.

With all due respect I cannot and will not do so. Any individual who participates in a scenario and would seek to break the rules in such a way deserves no part of this community and I would expect the command staff and participants of each side to honor the confidentiality of all plans and communication of the opposing force up to and including notifying HiTech Creations of anyone violating those standards.

This is just a game that is true, however, games are only worth winning when the letter and spirit of the rules are followed.

The highest order of integrity demands that we abide by a code of honor that states I will not lie or cheat or tolerate those who do and that everyone has the right (and duty) to question unlawful orders or unfair gameplay.

Ya it's me....trying not to overeact but one of the things I absolutely loved about scenarios was the team newsgroups with the planning, after action reports and joshing.

If we give in to folks who cheat and become secretive enclosed groups of leaders vs. grunts then I would be really disappointed.

"Ridiculous", and as further correction, an entirely separate issue from my post in the Allied BigWeek forum.

What part of this do you disagree with Yankee swine? What do you have against private scenario forums for opposing sides?

I never noticed you object before or seen the possibility of cheaters ever stop you from holding forth an opinion in one.

The simple fact is barring a complete embargo on information there is nothing to stop an individual from having one or two additional accounts and signing up for email lists or volunteering to lead a group in order to have access to information.

So our only alternative is to trust one another to not use ill gotten gains. As a matter of fact I am sure you are aware of instances in prior scenarios where orders were posted to open newsgroups in error and  the opposing side was the one who notified the careless (and sleep deprived) moke of the indiscretion.

Uhhh... Espionage _is_ part of the fun of multiframe scenarios.  If your side isn't engaging in espionage, your side isn't in the game.

That said, like in the real world, the bulk of any side's intel efforts is concentrated on non-confidential sources.
Furthermore, I think both sides and the CMs agree that "espionage" does not include obtaining access to information that is password-protected.
Yet discussing in detail mission plans in a group larger than is necessary does give cause for concern.  We're talking about over a hundred people on each side, and many of these people (myself included) have good friends on the other side.  Now, I wouldn't willingly disclose any information; but I might let slip some detail.  Now, multiply that by a hundred, and put on the other side someone with the job of collecting and evaluating that information, and suddenly discretion even in private forums becomes important.

The intelligence war is for me the most entertaining aspect of these scenarios.  I've never seen a case of someone reporting information from a secure forum, but I have seen impressive results from inadvertent leaks.
