Squad rotation
« on: May 28, 2001, 09:43:00 AM »
After reading some of that other thread, it seems rotating your squad has become a popular thing to do. But why do it every four weeks? I honestly have no idea why CO's want to play musical countries so often. Do you just get tired of flying with the same group of guys that fast?

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way one of these fanatics who think these 3 countries are somehow real, or that there are "traitors" here. But after flying a year with the rooks, it was kinda hard to go knights a week ago, which we pretty much had to do to try to even out the arena (which was caused by rotating squads)

It would seem to me the responsible thing to do would be for the big squad CO's to stay with a country at least a few months. Lets face it, all these countries are the same. Some are blessed with more skilled players than others, and some have more than their fair share of tardicles. But it's all the same.

So, Why rotate so often?

Well, in my case as a CO of the squad I can rotate my people  how I want and still the balance of power between the nation will remain the same... Our squad is no threat to anyone except to its own members   We die a lot and in large numbers of cases we dont even know WHY?   Thats mainly the reason for our squad's name also... But at the other hand Im not planing to rotate to any other "nation" anytime soon... Im a BISHOP and Im proud of it!   Those Knit LW gangs   can kill me as many times they want but I wont loose my faith in my country!

I just came from AW where country loyalty is high.  After about 7 years of playing I know of only one squad the rotated.  We also formed a 10 squad forum and held monthly combined squad missions.  These were a lot of fun and were similar to a mini-scenario.  On regular squad nights we typically worked with other squads and had open invites to join in smaller missions.

In AH I don't see a lot of country loyalty.  This will make it hard to coordinate any multi-squad type missions.  I think the current strat set-up makes it hard to have country loyalty.  Most of our squad has no problems being the underdogs, but when you can't fly, or you don't have the bases to do a squad mission, you need to move to the country with the numbers to play.

Last month we played on the Knights side.  I came up three nights in a row to find only damaged, caped field.  I sat at a tower waiting for a VH come up so I could move out of the tower and play.  We moved to Rooks this month and night after night, the Knights are down to a handful of fields.

The strat needs to change to allow people to fly and squads to do missions regardless of the strat situation.  Until this is done people and squads will be forced to go to a winning side just to play.

Well, I can tell you why the AK's do it.  First, recruitment.  If we stay Knight, that greatly hinders our ability to effectively recruit players that are Bishop and Rook.  Sure they can see we are a worth adversary, but how are we to fly with?  Are we cordial?  How do we work as a team?  These questions can only be answered by us rotating and allowing others to see how we work and vice versa.

Second, friends.  For example, Cobra and the Muskets.  If we were to always fly against the guys, sure it would be fun, they are very worthy and honorable opponents.  However, there is nothing like doing missions with them either.  Some of the funnest times we have had are join missions with other squads, particularly the Muskets.  If we stayed one side, and the Muskets another, we would never have the opportunity.

In any event, this is the angle the AK's have.  We have toyed with the idea of making it every two weeks, just for balance purposes, but have resolved to leave it at one month, for better or worse.

If you don't rotate, you will be undercooked.

I know where you're coming from with flying with cobra and the muskets, quality guys. Myself, I enjoy flying against good squads rather than with them. I enjoy a friendly rivalry, like with the FDB's. I enjoy flying against them rather than with them, just because I know if I shoot one of 'em down, they're gonna be cool with it. I very much enjoy going against you in your P51 nimitz, but seems every time I get it pinned down what country you're flying for, there you are in my country, or the other one, etc.

You guys shouldn't have any trouble recruiting, we flew for one country for a year or so, and our lil squad generally we have to turn away at least a couple of guys a month who inquire about joining up. How big do you guys wanna get?

I dunno, just seems ya miss out on some good comradery when you're rotating countries all the time.

How much money will it cost the AK's in one country a while? Ripsnort said he'd be perfectly happy to send Curly a check, just name the price...

A Tardicle must surely be a small Tard. Now this word could be missing two letters off the front or might just be a mispelling of...

If Ripsnort buys me the latest greatest state of the art gaming machine I'll stay in whatever country he wants me to... hell I'll even stay out of the AH MA if he wants me to.

I'm easy to buy off though. :-)

Ï know why I deliberatly joined a rotating squad:
After three years of being in a firmly fixed Cz based AW squad, it hit me that I'd only seen 2/3 of AW pilots through a gun site, I'd only ever chatted and flew with 1/3.

That's a mistake I'm not going to repeat.

To be honest, AW was worse, as once you joned a squad you couldn't change sides, which meant that you couldn't even try to address play balance, which was a serious handicap when you logged on to find 15Az, 29 Bz, and 60 Cz (or the other way round, what ever..)

I remain a "rotator" because I'm after "good fights"; I avowedly eschew any kind of "cyber patriotism", and, to be honest, I find the phenomenon distasteful.

what HB said... I prefer to fight the great squads instead of them stealing all my kills

actually, we rotated to try and even out the arena a bit.  Also it's one hell of a challenge to fly for nits right now.

I keep telling myself that I'll become a better pilot by flying against great odds rather than picking up the little pieces that the good squads leave behind when I'm flying on the same side they are on...

And for those of you that complain about never being able to find a good fight... try flying for the country that has far fewer pilots.. you'll be able to find a good fight... GUARANTEED !!!
