Took a walk on the wild side
« on: March 13, 2004, 12:32:02 AM »
Probably most of you know that I'm a CT regular and never (well, rarely, at least) venture into the MA.

The warping was so bad tonight, though, that there really was no alternative.  The CT was unplayable on my machine.  So I went into the MA.

I would like to disabuse you of some myths:

First Myth:  MA people are all rude.

Not true.  I saw a lot of salutes and many pleasant conversations son Channel One.  People I had not seen in years were there.  I feel bad for ever having doubted our neighbors' manners.

Second Myth:  ....er....there are no more myths.

Seemed to me that everyone was flying a Yak9U, a P51D, a Spit9 or a Nik.  (Well, I did see a Hellcat, but I figured he was probably a CT refugee.)  Ganging and vulching were rampant.  The landgrab was in its prime.

All my unsupported, overgeneralized and underinformed prejudices turned out to be true.

But the most disturbing part was this:  Just like Lord of the Flies, I became one of them.

I took off in a D11 (hey, why not?), found myself in Johnnie Johnson's starling-type formation with a few others, when suddenly we were in amongst red icons.  Presently, to no one's surprise, the Oldman was plummeting to Earth, trailing fire.  Within moments, I saw a message on Channel Two:

"Oldman, do you know what the keys are for check six?"

Here was a newbie in need of help.

"Yes, [name omitted], it's the quotes key."

"Then use it."

You know what you see when you're in an A8 and you get a good shot on a target 100 yards in front of you?  That big ball of fire?  That's all I could see.  And so, with all my years of maturity and education, I calmly responded:

"[name omitted], check your own tail."

It's true.  I am bickering in the MA.  Now tell me, have I already been absorbed by the dark side?

Yeah, 's from the same three nice guys, the rest are "STFU you xxx". So, no, everyone in the MA is not a jerk, just 99.783% are. You cant even be nice and say "Good shot" or "Good move" and they think your being a smartprettythang.

The MA is a cesspool, and if you go in you get dirty.

The only time I can bear going into the MA is during the early morning hours after getting off from work during the week I work third shift.  CH1 is actually pretty civil, and there are some decent A/A fights to be had.  Teamwork is pretty good with folks checking 6's and working together to attain goals.

That being said, unless it's nighttime in the CT, and I desperately need an AH fix, I will NEVER go to the MA during primetime.  There is just too much BS on both CH1 and the country channel.  Really don't see how anyone can find anything "fun" in that atmosphere.

Same here Duke. I go to the MA once a week or so when the CT is empty and fly a sortie. Most times I dont even get to 10k before I'm fed up with the drivel (on both channel 1 and country) and I usually auger and leave before even sighting any enemas. Maybe I'm just getting old, but my tolerance for that playground talk is very low.

As for "check 6's", I am happy when people give me one, but it is not their responsibility, and I dont assume anyone will do it. I am the only one responsible for checking my 6, if somebody sneaks up on me thats my fault, nobody else's.

Oldman..last night I, on the otherhand, who normally fly MA, decided to try CT for a bit--I come here now and again--I like the limited plane sets (i.e. no LA7s), and somewhat historical scenarios. There sure ARE differences between the two, but the one negative consistency I see in CT, which ususlly reminds me why  I rarely go there, is even if there are 7 people in the arena, 4-5 of em are orbiting at 20k, lookin for an upper to jump just after he clears ack. Thats not fighting, is just a  vain attempt at summary execution. How can you ever improve your fighting skills if you avoid anything remotely resembling a fight? Whats the value of landing a kill that requires no effort? I view an arena with consistently less than 20 guys as a FIGHTING/furball arena, where one might get the coveted "One on One" fight that rarely happens in MA without 3 spits and 2 LA7's jumping in. Upon voicing this opinion, was duely informed that if I want fights, go to the dueling arena; on that basis, WHY would one choose CT over MA? It's no great wonder the only time decent numbers come CT is when Pizza map is up

The difference is, in the MA the suicide-auger-fuel-porking-plant-the-flag-horde tards is the standard form of play. When they leave the MA (because Pizza is up, or a reset is near) then the CT temporarily has tards. As soon as they go back to the MA the CT is once again free of tards till the next Pizza rotation.

CT'ers dont complain about MA furballers (Shane, Urchin, Leviathan, etc, I love it because I always learn something useful from fighting them), and personally I dont know why they dont fly here more since this is for the most part a "furball" arena and furballers are regularly ridiculed in the MA even by their own countrymen.  Its the MA "win the reset" crowd that we are not crazy about. Hope that helps.
