I appreciate your job with those locked threads.

It's nice to see someone showing a sensible attitude with regards to this.

I hope we all can discuss this on a rational way in the future, when all the dust settle and the feelings are not so near our skin.

Ah Great!  A new thread were we can openly and civily discuss (until the lock comes crashing down) the poilitical and military ramifications of the Spanish elections empowering a socialist government whos first order of business is to declare the US led coalition in Iraq as a disaster and immediately state that Spanish troops will be withdrawn from Iraq without a UN mandate all because of the Spanish populace reacting favourably to a terrorist act.

Now keep it civil people!

The Spanish people have the right to do as they please.
It may or may not be agreable to us as a country but I do respect there right to make that choice.

I do too.  The Spaniards are a free and democratic people.
I just find the history of it amazing and perplexing.

The free world now rightfully fears the final few days leading up to national elections.

As it should be....I guess.

He wasn't brown-nosing, he was thanking someone for an action that he found decent.  Maybe the fascist brigade will ruin this too.

Nice....real nice...

Al Quada just learned they can change the outcome of an election....

When are people going to learn that refusing to face a problem does not make it go away?

if an attack happened a few days before the election in the US bush would most likely benefit from it. Weather it be a christian nut blowing up a clinic or a islamic nut blowing up a place of  business; the votes would swing towards bush, who runs on a campaign of fear.(aka vote for me or you wont be safe).

Im really worried about the olympics this year. Some of the cheapest and most crooked officials and police in the world to buy off are located in greece.

Funny, Froggy but I read an article not 2 hours ago where Kerry said Bush was not doing a good job at domestic security and that I should vote for him or I would not be safe.

I'm sure you already know, all politicians will say anything to get your vote.

I think in your scenario, just the opposite would happen. I can see the media jumping all over bush screaming "Why did'nt you protect us!!" and the votes going to the democrats. Something similar just happened...oh where was it...It's on the tip of my tongue...

SPAIN!

The Spanish people gave a kneejerk reaction to fear, IMHO.
Daniel(Cyrano) said in another thread that the conservatives were on their way out of power regardless, in spite of what the polls say.
Since he is in Spain. maybe he knows something the polls don't show and I'm completely off base.

I ache for the Spanish people, truly sympathize with them.  Such reckless killing must be so overwhelming to deal w/ first hand.

Pulling out of Iraq or doing anything but staying tough on terrorism is foolish. I understand that the Socialists may want to pull out of Iraq right now. I'd honestly be surprised if they did so.
Getting rid of Hussein was the right thing to do, I believe(only from what I've read) that the Spanish are thoughtful and reasonable people.  With this in mind, I think even the Socialists will see the folly in withdrawing troops.  Their reasons won't be important.  The terrorists will see it as a victory regardless.

Weren't there Americans complaining, "Since you don't live in the US, maybe you should stay out of our affairs?" quite recently? Rhetorical question. Yes, there were.

Maybe a bit of "Practicing what you preach" is in order here. Thats a statement, not a question.
