It seems that the option to run the game in 16bit has been removed. SOooo........, no more AH2 for me until I can pony up for a new card.

He has all the right to. I do feel that the blood spatters add a whole new look to the game, and it is useful in getting an early warning as to when you have a pilot wound. While it does add to the realism of the game, it does offend some people. Have you even stopped to consider the situation in his shoes? What if he had a relative die in the same manner of being shot in the cockpit?
Also, he has a good reason to state this matter, because AH is a flight sim.

it would be really cool if you have a severe pilot wound you'd see this fountain of blood spurt out and cover the inside of the canopy and add some screams and moaning sounds.

There will be a slider setting for the blood with "minimum, medium, and full" blood effects.

Full = blood as you see it now
Medium = no blood, and a wav file that plays "Ow! Quit it!" or "Ssstop you ssssthlilly goossth!"
Minimum = no blood, flowers instead of bullet holes and a wav file that plays the Barney "I love you, you love me" song.
