I havent downloaded the new betas yet, but I read with some dismay that they changed the engine sound model back to the "old" way (AH1?). Is this a concession to the many players complaining, who obviously never understood the concept of the constant speed prop? Hitech used to go for realism, even in the face of a lot of people asking for more "gamey" solutions (AH1 levelbombing mode comes to mind).
I have flown many hours in constant speed prop planes, and I really liked the new sound model, even though I agree that merely changing the volume doesn´t do the fact of ramming in the throttle justice. In the plane you feel the deepening vibration from the engine, the sound gets more "throaty", without changing pitch, of course.
I favour a solution that is closer to reality, even if it hits many people used to car engines or fixed pitch props as "unrealistic". By the way, not even the mighty Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 gets this one right!
