Going to Oregon for a week...
« Reply #30 on: March 26, 2004, 02:04:52 PM »
I like to pump my own gas so I know it's been done properly. Last time I was in Oregon and the attendant did it, he didn't have the nozzle in properly. Came to my window and said "$5 please". And I said "Whaddya mean, $5? It's almost empty". So then he tried again, and surprise surprise he got about another $15 worth in.

Oddly enough, the pilots of light aircraft ARE allowed to pump their own gas in Oregon...

BTW - how much does diesel cost in the US?

PS - I liked Oregon lots. (1991)

Must stops:

Evergreen Aviation Museum- This place has the Spruce Goose and they just brought in a SR-71 Blackhawk.  Plus many WWII planes.

Evergreen Aviation

McMenamins Brew Pubs- Oregon/Portland has the most brew pubs per capita in the US (strip clubs too).  All the brew pubs have great beer!
As Greese said, If you do go thru Bend hit DBC and if you're REALLY hungry go to Pilot Butte, the best dang burgers in Oregon.

McMenamins

Crater Lake- The only thing that far south is Oregon's only National Park and the deepest lake in the states (7th in the world)

Crater Lake

Pump jocky's pump your gas for you(it's against the law if you do it) and no sales tax.  But be prepared, it's very true about "April showers bring webbed feet" in Orygun!

Have fun and drive safe.

Are they more than 3-4 bucks for a pack of Marbs?, If they are then Im bringing my own.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

$3-4 for name brand smokes.  but if you get out into the forest they can really rape you on cigs.

at lost lake general store I saw a man almost in tears over $7.75 they wanted to charge him for smokes.

I've thought about setting up a consesion stand at the bottom of the rapids on our more popular whitewater rivers.  $1 for a dry cig, $.50 for a dry match.

ya, thats an adventure, especially if you get stuck behind someone who is going extreamly slow.  the cars bunch up and you are stuck going 20mph for about 3-4 hours.

in the winter you don't hit the passes without, flares, blanket, lighter, water, food (basicly enough stuff to keep you alive for a day),  thay are almost always fine but you never know when it can get bad fast and leave you stuck and alone for a while.

this time of year is fine though,  usually the worst you will see is black ice.  they keep them well cleared, but we don't salt the roads so always watch for ice.

The Tillamook museum is really cool. It inside a WWII Navy zepplin hanger and is huge. The zepplins used to patrol off the coast looking for subs. If you're going to be in Portland and you want to see an air museum, come up to Seattle to the Museum of Flight(where I work). I'll get you in for "free" and give you a personal tour of the new fighter wing which doesn't open until June 6th. Watch out for the Oregon State Patrol and don't speed unless you have radar. You can make Kalamath Falls in less than the 7 hours I see posted. I can make it from N border to S border in 5.5 hours without exessive speeding.

Seattle is too full of socal transplants nowadays

An it's unfortunate too. I cosign what Ripsnort said, most Californians leave after six months. You can easily spot them on the freeway. They're the ones driving 35mph in the fast lane when it rains. Dry or wet, I'll do 65, so get in the right lane if the rain scares you.

:lol

yes, they all good reasons why oregon sucks. if your mom and daddy spent enough money to get you into your yuppie status then oregon is the place for you. if not then it is just lame, its just rich folks and illegals. bla bla bla, it blows as a state. even the guys who live there dont dispute me on this point.

I have to disagree, I think it's a pretty good state, except for the economy.  I moved from Eugene to LA for career, and I plan on eventually moving back.  They key is to buy a condo in LA, then sell it a couple years later and buy a 5 bedroom house w/ pool and 10 acres in Oregon with the cash in hand from the condo sale.  :D

shhh, the party line is "Oregon sucks as a place to live", if you continue to try and persuade people otherwise you will be kicked out of the club and deported to Cali.
