fishing really went to hell in the late 70's.  when I was 10, cathcing a couple 36" chinooks in the columbia wasn't a big deal.  dad was complaining then how the fishing had fell off since he was younger.

the fishing is improving lately (maybe we should thank some of those environmentalists for that) but it is a long way from "better than it's ever been"

And where is this place? I've been bass fishing in Mexico and it was great. Lakes in Washington don't get big bass because the water is only warm(sorta)during the summer months.

11 pounds is nothing compared to Mexico. There's a lake in Mexico they were pulling 19-20 lb. large mouth out  a couple of years ago. I guess down there you can catch 100-150 bass before noon(per person).

guess the world record was caught in ga usa

George Washington Perry caught the 22 lb., 4 oz. lunker in Montgomery Lake near Jacksonville, Ga., in 1932. The record is now over 70 years old! It was Depression days and after officially weighing the huge fish they ate it! It took two nights to eat the thing.

Why would you fish for bass( a garbage food fish) in the northwest. When you have steelhead, salmon, trout, halibuit, and other salt water varietys.

a garbage food fish
It’s a well known fact that smallmouth bass eat crayfish and largemouth are more likely to eat another fish. Why the difference? It is really quite simple. From birth, smallmouth utilize rock structure for cover. Largemouth consistently seek out thick brushy cover. Considering the preferred habitat types it is only logical that the diet of each species will be dominated by the most abundant food source in the neighborhood. Crayfish live in and under rocks while most small pan fish and minnows seek out weeds and brush for nursery cover habitat. So a smallmouth living in the rocks will encounter crayfish more often than small forage fish. Examination of the smallmouth stomach will most often reveal crayfish
<~~so why is it a garbage food fish frog?,,its eating othere fish not garbage,,lol

there is no halibit were i live,,,,some rainbow trout<~~too small,,not much fight,,,good tasting in a pan,,i dont eat bass much,,i sport fish bass,,,if you catch a record bass in your state,,you will get all sorts of crap for it,,fishing sponcers will send you tons of free fishing gear,,,now thats what im talking about,,money fish,,lol,,plus good fighters,,and much better than catching carp or suckerfish

salmon and steelhead good fighters,,and tasty.,,but if you wanna talk big dog fish and good tasting ,,,go for a sturgen<~~now thats a fish,,some of them so big in my arena you have to have a 80foot boat to bring them in<~but they got limits,,so you cant bring in the big ones anymore

oohh well,,,,fishing with a poll is fine for me and about 1 billion other fisher men who cant afford a divesuit and a charter boat to go fishing every weekend,,lol<~~think your going to disagree no matter what anyone says,,lol

nothing wrong with poll fishing frog,,and you said somthing about trout? i would love to see ya try and spearfish for trout in a 5 foot deep stream thats going faster than you can swim,,lol good luck:)

nothing wrong with spearfishing either,,not everyone lives next to the ocean,,poll fishing is plenty of fun,,plus you cant drink beer while spearfishing and barbq:),,,ehhehe

actually for the freshwater fish the garbage eaters are the best.  for a pure freshwater you can't get much better eating than sturgeon, and what they eat would turn your stomach. trout are tastey and they eat mostly bugs.

but freshwater bass would be pretty low on my eating list, I just don't care for the flavor much.  steel-head,  salmon, and trout are better, but saltwater fish are much better than any of the fresh water fish (rockbass, ling-cod, halibut, shark)

I have a few friends who fish for bass(they mostly live on the other side of the hill).  it seems fairly addictive, bass fisherman are some of the most fanatical about their sport.  it hasn't really caught on in the valley or on the coast like it has on the eastside.
