I'm not sure I like this idea, but I thought it might make for an interesting discussion.

I don't think he meant Axis vs. Allies, but simply unique planesets for each of the three sides would have different planesets available to them.

Going with that assumption (yes, I know about assumptions) I have compiled a planeset for the Bishops, Knights and Rooks.  I tried to keep it as balanced as possible while also spreading the types out.

Would this sort of thing help or hurt the MA?  All aircraft would be available at all times, unlike a rolling planeset.  Players might have to change sides to get the fighter they want, but they'd all be available.

Thoughts?

it would be less good.

it seems good in theory but in practice you just get less variety by not enabling all planes for all players.

limited planeset is for the CT and scenarios where historical matchup fights are the purpose of the engagements.

if anything the MA needs more new planes and variants

kind of like night, no one will agree which side is better, nor agree to really correctly debate the thing to settle it once and for all.
Probably would make more grief than pleasure imo.

As Citabria said, Combat Theater limits planes available to sides. Wouldn't like to have to switch sides to get fav rides in MA.

However, to spice up MA, what would happen if there were more sides?  WWII often had more than three nations engaged in the same battle.

Chess motif could add three countries:  Kings, Queens, Pawns.  Lots of dry humor involved in all those.  Pawns could be like The Mouse That Roared.  Queens?  More like Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Kings?  A plethora of Robert Shaw (the actor, not the air combat author).

Would victory and map changes be quicker or slower with six sides?  Might be fun to try a week or so and see what happens.

Ace's High needs to drop the chesspiece bit altogether and adopt card suits for MA. And give the CT nationalities instead: U.S., British, Soviet, Japanese, Italian, German ... and ... of course ... (Spanish) Republican and (Spanish) Nationalist. :D

I noticed that the Knights get 2 of the three non-perked uber rides, the Dora and the Pony D model, the Bish get the Russian Rocket (Yeh!), while the Rooks get left holding the bag. :D

The MA setup works, I wouldn't change a thing other than to maybe reduce the price of a couple of the perk rides like the F4U-4.

I divided the top three fastest aircraft and gave one to each side.  Rooks got the Typhoon, and to compensate them for getting the slowest of the top three speed demons I gave them the Spit IX, the most popular brawler.

Still, others have good points.  It was really just something to see if people wanted to discuss it, or other constructive ideas rather than the bulk quantity whining that seems common of late.

Fester,

I didn't think that the Skink actually saw combat and , as I recall, only 3 were built.  Its been a couple of years since I looked at the data though.

Yeah but the Bishops would have la7, g10, the top jug, tempest, f4u4...  I mean really, who wants to see more bish la7s around?  :p

Its an interesting idea, but I'm with Fester here, we could use more variety in the planes/vehicle set.  Guys are so hopped up for a new ride they are ready to kill someone in front of their own mother to get one :D

Personally, I would prefer the old AW way. A Euro plane set and a Pac plane set.

Clearly, designing a successful online combat flight simulation game is a bit more complicated than Mickey Rooney saying to Judy Garland, "Hey, gang, let's put on a show!"

Which sides would Mickey and Judy fly on?

Maybe Aces High country slots can be bonus offerings in the next Powerball lottery.
