What's your current system? If it's not too old (pre ATX case) and has a functional HD, you probably just need a new motherboard, AMD processor 2500 barton (not hard to get a safe overclock to 3.2 levels - at least for me, YMMV!), and a $100 to $150 video card - maybe even gety by with less. Total about $300 - $450

Many components come in both a "boxed" reatil (like you would get off the shelf in Best Buy and an OEM version (which is just a product pulled from a large shipment with no bells or whistles or special packaging). People who build and sell private-brand computers usually use OEM equipment to save some $.

Typically, with OEM all you get is the hardware and driver disk, and maybe or maybe not various cables or extra software applications. It comes bubble wrapped without any fancy packaging or extra games, etc. You have to do some checking to see exactly what is included to see if you need to purchase other items or if it makes sense to go with the retail. Warranty issues can also arise.

For example, an OEM processor will just be the processor chip, and not the chip + heatsink. Of course, for the same total price as the retail version you can add an aftermarket cooler that has better performance.

They are just two of the many on line places where you can perchase parts/packages for computers/systems... Building one is simple... An idiot can put one together (I have)...

Dont be afraid to ask questions, even while on line... Someone out there is bound to have a similar setup as yours or will know the answer to your question.

I urge you to try those to links. They will test and burn your motherboard combo... Everything is done for you... Chip is stuck on by them, warenteed by them for a year (minimum)... Just screw it in to your case, slap your vid card in the slot hook up the cables load windows and bingo! You got yourself a nice computer...

The prices arent bad when you compare what you get from Dell, gateway,HP ect ect and what your getting by doing it yourself... (That make sense?) I hope;)

Trust in me bud, its simple to build your own system, one you do you will never buy another P.O.S. off the shelf system again.

Oh by the way...

If you go to AccessMicro, the motherboard combo is the way to go...

They do have "bare bones" systems with just the essentials but its much more fun to screw all the crap in yourself, buy a case you like ect ect... The place you want to go to is "motherboard combos".
