Worst Night I've Ever Had
« on: April 07, 2004, 11:31:31 PM »
The lag and warps tonight was unbeleiveable.

When I say lag I mean somone would be comeing at you head on, they'd pass... Ok everythings cool. NOT... Before you know it you are leaking oil and every other thing, missing a wing and this was 10-15 seconds after the con passed you... Thats lag...

Every time you'd be on someone they'd warp.

Everyone was complaining... This isn't just my connection.

I have never seen a night when it was this bad. Once in a while you can expect a warp or two, that's just the internet and the way it goes. But tonight was down right out of line.

Ok

My whine is finished.

I was wondering how the code is written, ie. the role that the map code plays in damage assessment. For example, if you're flying near a field, with lots of field damage in your field of vision, that's having to be rendered on your screen - and that of all the other players in the area. Is it possible that the "map code" (if that's what they call it) is working flat out and swamping the server? I became suspicious because the BBS is on the same server, and they had it down for maintenance this week, which gave me a hunch that they were trying to fix something to relieve bandwidth.

The OZK map was tested in its own arena, but there's no test like release into Production. That's the acid test.

I'll back Morpheus on this one - I'd never seen it so bad.     Skuzzy should be ale to tell us if it was 'net related lasted night.

I don't think I've heard of maps causing connection problems - I would think lots of activity on the map would impact your frame rate, not your connection.

I've only been playing for 4 tours, but last night there were periods where the warping was unbelievable.  This had nothing to do with my system or internet connection --- in fact, my squadmates were seeing the same thing.

XJ and I were winging up for nearly the whole night, he'd be on someone's 6 and they'd warp..

he'd ask... where'd he go? lol...

We were seeing the same thing...

He'd jump all over the sky for about 5-10 seconds then return to his righful place infront of XJ's guns...

It was most anoying.

tied for first worst warping:

-the hosed bias code :D
-the day and a half when some internet company's cables went bad, vox + text just died, incl. kills.  Latency delta went flat to the bottom of everyone's net status. Just about everybody logged.

Thats pretty mach what the conversations with my squadies have been for the past three or four days.  "where is he now?  He was just in front of me. Boom you are dead"  For example, I had an F6F at D200. I lined up for the shot and the moment I pull the triger I start hearing engine noises all around my plane and the F6 is gone.  "Hey, where did he go?" wellcome to the tower.

I've been in the IT bussines for about 15 years now.  When we have problems with lag and customers complain we blame the NET or their network, or their computer cause you don;t know what other programs they are running, bla bla bla.  The truth is, the problem is with the server.  HTs line is always that the problem is somthing else.  Its never their software or the server.  When you experience lags or probs like that that effect multiple people, you cannot blame their connections, net, computer etc.  There is a prob with the map or the server.

im gonna remove about 6 carriers form the map (the hq fleets)

watchign them in play shows they are always in transit to the fight so they will be the best ones to eliminate and with so many cv fleets being tracked by the server it could be a cause.

will keep tweaking till its kosher.

Dedalos, Your full of crap. We never just " always blame" the users connection.

But the real fact is 98% of the time it isn't us. , and is totaly out of our control.

If 1 or 2 users sundenly are having problems, but everone else isn't, You realy belive we should look if it is our problem?

When a problem shows up, that is fairly wide spred we start looking if it is our problem, if it is us, we state so, and do our best to alivate the problem

When somthing changes like a map and we start hearing about considerable lag change we go out and find out whats up. So exatly how long has this map been out?

since friday.

ive had pretty good connects and dont see much lag except one day when the bbs and everything was lagging but that was my end.

but i suspect the server might be loaded to hard with tracking as many fleets so i need to remove some.

I thought it was a new virus out on the web or maybe that sooo many people were in one place in planes and GV's at Furball Isle.

Yeah it was pretty laggy last nite. This 109 in front of me did the craziest zoom out, curly q's in the sky and then disappear, all in about 5 seconds. It was the best lag show I have ever seen. It seemed like a lot of people were complaining on Furball Island.

Still a great map though! :)

That's the same thing we've found out at SOE.
