Ever wonder if some of these new 'viruses' are fake or written by the 'virus protection' companies?

Not trying to sound paranoid...but the thought just crossed my mind.

Ridiculous. There's no reason for the A/V companies to write viruses, there are PLENTY of legit ones written every day. Your comment suggests that you don't have a grasp for 1. how easy it is to write new threats and 2. how many kids our there love to do it.

PS, this isn't a virus, newtear is a network attack method that uses a weakness in early versions of the Windows TCP/IP stack to cause crashes.

I feel like crying now that my self-worth and self-esteem have just been ripped to shreds just like Funked pretty dress when the FDB's get a look at his pretty mouth.

Might I suggest decaffinated coffee. Some brands even taste as good as the real thing.

I dont think its so far fetched. After all nobody stands more to gain from such things as the antivirus companies themselves.
and this wouldnt be the first industry to less the ethical practices.
Its big buisness and I wouldnt put anything past big buisness.

Nobody stands to benefit more from crime then the police, right? Does that mean that the police steal stuff so they can stay in business?

Nobody stands to benefit from fire more then fire departments, does that mean that they burn down random buildings?

Nobody stands to benefit from terrorist attacks then the soldiers who get the funding to go in after them, does that mean that the US soldiers blow up cars loaded with fertilizer and ram planes into buildings?

I work for a company that makes antivirus products, and we have more then enough work to do just keeping up with the new worms and viruses out there every day. A life guard doesn't need to have his friends act as if they're drowning so he'll keep his job, why would you automatically assume that an A/V company WOULD?

I work for a group that makes viruses and viruses. And we find it difficult to keep up with the A/V companies. Would you please create a few "new" viruses to give us breathing room to create something really new?
