Why is it people often take credit for events they had no involvement in? Why is it necessary to blame people for the decisions of their respective governments, either current or in the past? And why for Cripe's sake do people read a post by one or two (insert nationality here) and reply to the effect "So this is what (nationality) are like"? Get a grip! Wake up!
I wasn't born until 1973...meaning, I didn't "save yer tulips in WW2". I'd make a hefty wager that most if not all of the people who like to use that phrase or abide by the spirit of it weren't there either, so STFU! Your grandfather (or whoever) was there, you say? So this gives you the right to use the word "we" in your debates? Give me an squealing break. Ask him to make a post here, and I'll hang on his every word. The moment you start using *his* accomplishments and sacrifices as fuel for *your* slanted agenda, you belittle the efforts of your ancestors and open a big can of worms. The reciprocal is also true...what kind of brainiac looks at a German and says "YOU started WW2" or a Frenchman and says "YOU surrendered"? Please, in the name of all that is holy and sacred, stop embarrassing your country.
Note that although I have centered these complaints on my American countrymen, the same applies to you Canadians/ Europeans as well. This argument fits equally well on either foot if you just rearrange the text, and is certainly not applied solely to the politics or events of the past. I'm choosing not to name names, but you know who you are. Internet warriors one and all.
There...I've doused myself in lighter fluid by saying what I really think, so feel free to strike the match. I feel alot better, though.
