Well well, what do you know?
« on: October 07, 1999, 02:22:00 AM »
Yesterday I was advancing towards enemy field with my Tiger I when I was ambushed by 3 T-34C's. As usual their popguns just scrathed the paint (stupid bolsheviks tried to penetrate my front armour) and I quicly dispatched one of them with a quick snapshot. I was slowly (yeah, Tiger I's turret traverse rate is still porked) taking aim to next T-34C when suddenly...

Blam!!!

By some miracle either one of them were able to penetrate my FRONTAL armour of near bow MG mount and killed my radio operator.

Is this right? Range was about 400 meters and angle was about 35 degrees so there should be no change at all to T-34C with 76L41 to get penetrative hit. Unless of course they had those pesky late war sub caliber rounds which should be NOT available, we are still in pretty early phase of rolling tank set.

I eventually killed one of the remaining T-34's and the other decided to run (Doh, T-34 running away, like there is other kind of T-34's...) and I went back to base for retank. Of course what I'm buggered is that I lost my unteroffizier Otto who has been with me since beginning of the ToD suppressing enemy infantry with his trusty MG-34. Btw, he was credited for 385 killed troops and 4 Gaz's and 7 trucks...

ARGH!

Either the Tiger I frontal armour is still made out of warm butter (yeah they said it was fixed two versions ago...) or the 76L41 shoots mach 5 depleted uranium darts. Which ever it is, HTC fix it NOW!

Oh yeah, good luck for finding players for Wehrmacht for the next weeks Kursk campaign, I mean who sane person will drive tank that is practically made out of wood and moves like an overweight whale on dry land? And the dumped down muzzle velocity of 88L53 does not help either

I just wonder how many real ruskie tankers really preferred land lease Sherman over T-34C? Now all you can see in arena is Shermans. Maybe, just maybe, its time to take a closer look to its armour model?

Yours disgruntled,

sorry, it was me. Finally Pyro allowed our staffel to practice in the AH open beta arena with the new HS-129/B3 tank hunter.

I thought you were a russian tank harassing our infantry. Ya know, friendly fire. But the other T-34s didnt survive to tell the story.

Moreover, I had chosen in the hangar the new BK-75mm electro-pneumatic cannon. It delivers a massive round, 3" in diameter [for reference, a Coke can is only about 2.5" in diameter]. It is absolutely lethal, as you could see. Sorry for your tank mate.

My favorite Russian front story has to do with a Soviet tank position that had just been taken by German armor.  The Soviet tank commander was very experienced from many years of fighting.  He immediately called in artillery, laying in a rather long barrage on the German tanks parked in the village square.  After hanging up, his adjutant looked at the commander, perplexed.  "Why did you order a barrage on the tanks?  The Germans have all gone into the buildings?!"  His superior nodded, saying, "I know that.  After they take a position the German tankers like to celebrate a little.  Some schnaps, bread, cheese.  By laying the barrage on the tanks, their crew won't be able to return to their tanks."

The Soviet counterattack started soon after the barrage began, the two overlapping.  Sure enough, the panzer crews were unwilling to run into the artillery barrage as the Soviet T-34's overran and dispatched the mostly unoccupied Panthers, while Russian infantry stormed the buildings.

God... you Tiger drivers are all the same... forever complaining...

You should have taken a Panther Ausf G instead of a Tiger IE for added manoevrability against those pesky T-34's and because of the sloping armour it would have given you at least 122mm equivalent frontal armour... the Tiger has 120mm frontal armour but its not sloped! How did you know what variety of T-34's they were... they could well have been T-34-85's... nice gun that 85mm... just right for opening Tiger tin cans

So when are you going to learn your lesson... not only is the Tigers gun traverse rate porked but like you say it manoevres like a pregnant whale and you would be far better off driving around at 47kph in a Panther. You still wouldn't be able to catch those damn T-34's doing 55kph but hell its got to be better than the damn Tiger... the only good thing about this tank is that it sports a nice 88mm gun... wheras the Panther has a 75mm but hell you can't have your cake and eat it you know... like some 190 drivers I happen to know... can't wait for when they bring out the Tiger II

Look whos talking! It was you who complained about Crusader II's rear and side armour earlier this ToD?

Well mr. Smartypants, Pather is not out yet. It should be out but it isnt. Don't get me started about its availability which is porked for playablility. If it would be available in its historical date it would be too uber to arenas.

Maybe I know which T-34 it was because I have already killed 88 of them in this ToD alone, which is incidentally only 75 fewer than my current streak, all in Wehrmacht tanks starting from PzKw IIC.

The ruskie 85 mm is nice gun but it's ballistics are too good. Historically they were forced to come close, now they just open fire headon from 2500 meters... can you spell dweeb?

I will be better off with Panther as soon as it gets out

And I will even drive it at night (if we ever get one in arena) after we get those late war infra red sights and driving aids.

Hmm, I remember your comments of Tiger I after that Tunisia campaign and I think you had pretty different opinion about its capabilities. I hope the walk to nearest base was not too long

I gladly will trade 88L53 for 75L70, it has equal or better penetration plus superior ballistics.

And our brothers-in-arms who fly the Fw 190's show admirable skill protecting us from cursed Typhoons and Il-10's. Despite they are forced to fly plane that weights almost as much as PzKW IIIL!

Ah, I forgot about that. The new hi-res terrain is fantastic. You can fly low level between farm, trees and city buildings.
Yesterday during my last mission, I found a russky tank situated in a built-up area. An attack from the side was not possible and we made our approach against its rear. Flying along the street at low level, I opened fire. The tank exploded almost immediately, the force of the explosion sending the turret cartwheeling through the air high above the attacking aircraft.

We'll soon be transferred to the Western front. During the next HS (heavy scenario) we have to rip the XIX Tank Corps tin cans.

May the rust stay away from your Tiger!

Awww gawd... don't do this to me... you know I would only drive a Crusader if I wanted to commit suiside! Jeez… what do you take me for...  a complete idiot

Yeah yeah... OK... the Ausf G should be allowed into the RTS a tad earlier but hey you do have the Ausf D which has slightly thinner side armour (40mm instead of 50mm)... its not a bad tank... all you have to do is take a couple of squadies with you in Panzer IV Ausf H or J to keep those nasty T-34 red star guys away from your flanks. A man of your calibre should be able to organise that fairly easily

Hey congrats... I've never had a kill streak running into 88... that's a big thumbs up from me. The nearest I ever came was 53 all in allied vehicles which then came to an end when a "firefly" dweeb bagged me in a hull down position some 2000m away... I never knew what hit me until it was all over... felt as sick as a parrot. Wish I could do aswell as you... whats your secret? Don't tell me... drive a Tiger... right?

Gawd... I just hate that... but what about all the "firefly" dweebs running around. This situation is getting out of hand! Talk about guys with small tanks and BIG guns... goes with the size of their dicks   That 76.2mm ROQF (Royal Ordnance Quick Fire) gun firing that ridiculous high velocity shell is just way way overmodelled   Come to mention it you say the muzzle velocity on your 88mm is porked... try hitting "shift-a" next time and loading some AP40 shot... 915m/s muzzle velocity will make quick work of any T-34 dweeb  ... but be careful you only carry 7 of them!

I really think your pissing in the wind on this one... the infra red sights were never used in anger during WWII and I doubt whether Pyro would model it. He sticks to his guns does Pyro

Give me manoevrability over a big gun any day... especially when the new map gets completed with lots of ground features... then we will see who the "real" men are

As for that Tunisia campaign I really do think we should force people to swap sides and replay the campaign. It would be really nice to make people realise what life is like when the shoe is on the other foot. You try taking on a Tiger in a Crusader or that stupid Churchill piece of crap... bloody hell... cannon fodder that's all we were... wasn't very enjoyable from where I was sitting... 2 hours of skulking around the desert on long range patrol... 20 seconds of sheer terror when we stumbled across some opposition to then have the crap blown out of us. Never again... got to be some better way of organising these events

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, spare us from the UberPantherQuaken(tm) hordes.   Real men drive Pz IVH; it's a sporting challenge, not pulling the wings off flies like you PantherDweeben like to do. In the last Western Desert SL I killed 2 Honeys and immobilized a Matilda II in an M13/40. I could knock out your Pansywgen VG any day of the week with a kettenkrad, a Panzerfaust and a fierce hangover.

Signed, killla

Firefox,

for christsake where the heck did you get that cheat file to add two more 40mm cannons to your ugly butt Hurry?
I hope HTC host will dump you out of the scenario next time.
We have enuff Tempest and Jugs hammering our heads in northwestern europe. We dont need faked Hurrys threwing up dust clouds.

Gatt SHHHHHH,
Your not supposed to tell them I doctored the files, YISH, Figured they wouldnt know that it only had 2 40s, Makes tank bust alot easier with 4. That frontal armor is no match for it.

Now I gotta go put away my files again,  Maybe the Mossie with the twin BK-75s Ive been working on,

Um PYRO,  Lookee this file I found .. put it in my personal directory would you

problem with the Hurri with the 4x40mm is that it would stall every time you even thought about pulling the trigger...
