I think they put 20mm's on every production US fighter in very limited quantities.  So the answer is probably yes  .

Yep... thing was tho.. 6 or 8 fifties were considered devestating firepower and most pilots, if given a choice, would prefer the fifties armement for their ability to put rounds in the air and their ammo capacity.   In AH the MG's are weak sisters (better in 1.05) and no one would rather have fifties than cannon.   This, against mainly other fighters!   Either something is wrong with the comparitive power/modeling of the different guns or there is an internet problem or the arena is so much different than history or, all of the above or, a combination of some of the above.

In any case.... since it doesn't appear to be quite realistic in effect... Perhaps we should be able to choose any armement package that was ever available.

Sorry, this is as close as they got and it didn't work out well.  There was a plan to make a 4 x 20mm version but it never happened.

6 fifties does seem to be the devastating firepower you hear so much about now that the cone has been adjusted.  Heck you can string out a longer kill streak in the 1d now than you can in the 1c (plus 4 more rockets=4 more pt boats).

Hi

Ive noticed 50cals on fighters are pretty effective now actually looks like same effect as in gun cams of 50cal planes. I hope dhog gets more use now, but i dobt it for MA, will be great in scenarios tho!

thanks GRUNHERZ

The only thing I wish for a P47, is a gabby paint job w/invasion stripes  ) keep ur canons for newbies who can't aim straight yet

Seems I caught a few big ones with this one Got frenchy ready to resolve to violence, Pyro steppin in, ....

Guys It was a joke. To my knowledge I dont know of P-47 varient that had 20mm cannons installed. Nor have I read about any field modifications either. Anmd IMO the 50's work great.

Actually the Army Air Force was working on a 60 Cal. machine gun. Don't think it ever became practical enough to use. The Navy was completely committed to the 20mill by 1945 however. For some reason it took the Air Force another 10 years after battling th Mig-15 to catch on to the cannon craze.

I think that many of the later model f86s mounted 4 20mm.  The problem was the ammo duration - only 4 seconds total firing time.  I met a f86d pilot recently, he said they fired 2 at a time instead of all 4, which gave 8 seconds firing time.  (He personally favored the 50s.)
