So who wants something from Russia?
« on: May 16, 2004, 01:30:17 PM »
Going there July 1st to July 25th. Me and my sis even spend our birthday there.

Unfortunately, we're going in already overloaded, so we can't take anything that's too heavy.

But, if there are any requests for special memorabilia, I'll try to take 'em into account.

Gonna spend most of the time in Kolomna, but we're going through Moscow and might go sight seeing if the weather turns to sh|t and operations are on standby at the DZ.

Just lemme know if you want a really cheezy Red Army fur hat or something :D

When I was in the Coast Guard we used to board Russian trawlers all the time for inspection. You would be amazed at what you could trade a new pair of Levi's for in 1979. Our medical officer got 3 of those fur hats and a bottle of cognac. Greatest trade evar!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

the port here in my town sees russian cargo ships arriving every day, and they carry ALOT of vodka and smokes that you can buy from them at a freaction of the cost here...of course, if you are busted buying the stuff you are in a lot of trouble. ive only had the guts to buy from them a couple of times. a bottle of vodka (sealed good brand) was about 10$ and a carton of smokes are the same.

Well you could buy yourself a titanium wrist watch made of scrapped SS-20 missiles.
Or maybe a watch with Sukhoi logos.

You may also find decent night view equipment with reasonably price if you're interested; Cousin imported some from there in '90s.

LOL I wonder how that Russian sailors laughed at the American they fooled ;) Fur hat - about 20 rubles, bottle of 3-star cognac - 5 rubles in 1979, a pair of Levi's - at least 150 rubles in the black market. Levi's and Lee were the most valuable jeans here.

Hehe you call me a "commie" :) Look, you hate commies because you were told to, and in fact there is no reasonable cause behind this hatred...
