IMO  I think you're wrong.  I see where you can make a distiction in words (semantics) but not in view point of judgement that one is better than another.

Good friend living here in New Zealand who has since passed on but was orginally from US told me once that the US would never elect a black man as president. Would many people in the US hold it against a man like Powell just because of his colour? Find it hard to believe they would.

however before the last election when asked if he would run he said he wouldn't becouse all the BS that comes with the job IIRC

I would think Powell would make an excellent president, however I think he is more than aware of the inevitable attacks on his character, and would want to remain above it.
