Train Journey across the Rockies.

Question, I want to travel across the Rockies by Train, I don't want a 2 day journey and want to cross during the day. I have found a trip from Omaha to Salt Lake but this leaves at 23.17 hours, will this Train cross the Rockies during daylight ?

Any other suggestions would be welcome, Do Amtrak have a monopoly on Rail Travel in the USA or are their other companies ?

You won't reach the Rockies till you get to Denver. The trip from Omaha to Denver is mostly at night and just prairie or sandhills.  From Denver to Salt Lake is mostly daytime travel leaving Denver at 8:20 AM and arriving in Salt Lake at midnight. Yes, unfortunately train travel in 90% of the US is horrible and is getting worse every year.  My state of Ohio rejected a revamp of the passenger rail system 4 years ago.

Are you after the travel (destination) or the experience? If you are trying to get from point A to B then take the above advice. However, if you want to see the Colorado Rockies by train, go here:
