FYI, it is quite possible to get a "good" fighter rank without resorting to Spit/Nik/La7.  Flew the 190s mostly and some 109s this month and ended up in 7th.  I'm now clinically insane from constantly fighting 3+ on 1 in a 190, so I'm starting my nik/spit/la7 month a week early.

So you won't be able to point to my stats and say "look, it is possible".... but it is.

Urchin - but you did fly P51D - you're disqualified. ;)

Good work in the 109 - especially the 109E. Did you film any of it? Would love to see....

I got to #91 without flying any Big5 in T49. I'm OK about that - not bad for an old fart.

I too lost my sanity tonight.  Urchin I think you were there to witness it.  Granted I've only been here 18 months or so but I have never seen such poor players on the rook team.  With the obvious exceptions, rooks are just plain awful... I'm talking REALLY bad.
They think drag has something to do w/ how they dress on the weekends.  They think rope is something they bring on their dates while dressed in drag.  They think setup is a blind date that they can tie up with their ropes while dressed in drag.
I'm not talking about noobs.  The run of the mill rook just doesn't have a clue  about working together......nothing.  I remember that, while I believed all sides had some good pilots, rooks were the better bunch overall. IMHO.  No more.  I am belabouring the point but they are just...... terrible.

3 and the final, examples:

I dragged Bloodnut's F4U past the noses of 4 rooks tonight, 3 of the names I recognized as having been around for a while.  Not one of them had the sense to drop on his 6, even after I gave them an angle.  To a man, with the exception of one guy, who sort of just wandered off, they all went for the HO, leaving me stuck w/ Bloodnut spraying like mad at 700, as I had started him in a gentle climb to set him.

#2

A rook pony was fighting a nik.  Both of these planes were right over me.  I was just close enough to worry the nik. The nik reverses down to HO me, leaving a perfect shot opportunity for the high rook pony, my teammate.  I watch as the nik slowy goes over the top, a cherry to be plucked from the sky for my high teammate.  To my horror, my teammate literally wanders off aimlessly.  End result, I'm Ho'd by the nik.

The reason my high teammate meandered off:  He was adjusting the gamma setting on his monitor.  Forget the gamey tardness of this.  He actually decided to do this in the middle of that fight.

Rooks have become so lax at giving check 6's that I don't give them anymore either.  In fact, to prevent myself from an old habit, I deleted my check 6 button.

Anyway, since Stang and my muppet friends aren't always on, I'm done w/ rooks. Right now I just don't think I could stand another flight with these idiots without punching my fist thru my monitor.

GL to you steve.. I would offer this before you leave though.. I have found that no matter what the circumstances are, or how terrible some act/are,  there are always others doing the exact same thing on both the other countries..  In short, all countries are the same..

I fly for fun, squad, and then country in that order..  Its good when one is as fortunate as me and is able to fly with such a great group of guys.. I consider myself lucky..

Next time be a little more vocal on the room chan.. hehe Had I been there you'd have been cleared.. 8)

urchin *has* gone insane?  :p

heh, steve - it's the same no matter where you go.  all red suck. all green suck slightly more.  but it is good to hop around now and then for the fresh perspective it allows, plus the opportunity for a little payback on the green suckage. :D
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Actually, no I didn't.

I was looking through my stats last night after 1 flight in the N1K and 2 in a Spit V.

And then I saw I had 3 deaths in the N1K, some flights in the Seafire, and one or two in the P-51D.

Unless I died 3 tiimes in one sortie, that just ain't possible... and I never flew the other two planes at all.

Only thing I can figure is someone was flying under my account, which makes a certain kind of sense because I've had a lot more than my fair share of disco's this month, and you get disconnected instantly if someone logs in with your account while you are playing.

I changed my p/w this morning, hopefully that'll take care of it.

ah steve you dont want to go and leave us. I think, and this is just me talking now, that because you are in a very small squad its harder for you to get good help when it is really needed. I know that flying with or near a good bunch of guys has really saved my butt more than a time or two. Flying with kappa is great because he's always there, its amazing really to wing with him because he is so easy to fly with. (Maybe more my style is why)

Stick around man, or take a few days off. For a while last week or the week before that I was about ready to call it quits. I never said anything but I would just not want to fly. So I took a few nights off and then came back and was ready to go again.

Like Kappa said, Muppets rock :D It should be against the rules to have as much fun as we do. :D

STEVE.........Grow Up.......You have been told for years from fellow squaddies you need too Grow Up.
You get yourself in impossible situations then call for help and when non squaddies dont help or are unwilling to die with you you cry they sk.....I think a GOOD pilot would not get themselves in that situation in the first place.
Please make the attitude change or go away.
We are sick and tired of your whining....
Dont let the door hit you in the prettythang when you go.

Please go away....

Estes was on your account earlier this month.  He said you'd offered your password so he could fly for one night after he'd lost his and had to wait until the end of the weekend to call HTC to fix it.

You must've been drunk when you made that offer.  :)

wtf?

I am not sticking up here for steve, lord knows he can do that on his own just fine. BUT steve is a dam good pilot and the times we've flown together I never once saw him doing anything stupid. Taking risks and being stupid are two entirely differnt things all together. Taking risks is what makes the game fun. Its what we fly for. Flying into places where you shouldnt be and being able to fly away unhurt. THats the challenge and its what makes the game fun...

I know its difficult to turn fight a plane. I know its very scary at times but when you do it, and win, the thrill is there and its what you are going to be looking for again and again from that point on.

Kalmori, for someone telling another to "grow up" you aren't sounding too mature yourself here.

Well Steve, even though I pretty much suck in fighter mode lately, my k/d ratio has turned into a d/k ratio from helping anyone and everyone who asks for help or needs it. I even ask a rook engaged 1 v 1 before I go in. I'll stay out if they want. Here's what it's gotten me:

1. I'll work my tail off to set up a 250 yd kill shot in something like a P-40 or C.202 then have 6 la-7's zoom in front of me from underneath or through my plane just as I open fire - Instant tower from killshooter.

2. I'll give up alt to come in to help someone trailing 3 or 4 bogies. I try to at least get them to pull off by not going after the trailing guy. I try to come in from a front-quarter angle so they all see me as I try to throw a little lead into each to make them disengage. I'm left with a 3/4 v 1 while the rook in trouble flys off home undamaged without so much as a thanks.

3. Some rooks are great about check 6's, some don't know how, but the worst are the ones who intentionally don't give them because they don't want you to maneuver and ruin the perfect shot they have on the target-fixated guy about to blindside you.

I think it's this new generation... I remember the old days when we used to have to get up at 4AM and chop wood before we flew our planes through 100 miles of snow... :)

It's a game.

If it is making you angry, you should stop playing it.

...also, don't ever expect help.  That way it will be nice when you get it and won't upset you when you don't.

Oh ok, that explains it.
