Heh, well, I'm a certified liberal and I certainly worry about due process, but I'm 100% in favor of the death penalty.

IF 1 person is put to death wrongly then there should be no death penalty.

Death is too good for the scum who did this.

They should skin the basterd alive and make him walk through the streets while people throw salt on him.

The first thing that came to my head was "There is the Death penalty, and then there is the Death penalty with due process..."

What did you find interesting?

Just that there are two countries that stand out from the list... Japan and the US.

From the rest of the list, the inmense majority are islamic countries or dictatorships (or close to it).

I just think Japan and the US shouldn't be in that kind of company. Doesn't look right.

Due process...in other words..The death penalty has been and continues to be used as a tool of political repression, as a means to silence forever political opponents or to eliminate politically "troublesome" individuals. In most such cases the victims are sentenced to death after unfair trials.  You won't see too many "political" opponents put to death in the USA ;)

The pendulum swings both ways.  Let's hope it's reaching the apex of the swing to left.  Stuff like this, the recent upholding of the horrific Dr. assisted suicide law in Oregon by the out of control ninth circuit court and the Massachusetts legalization of homosexual marriage will have a backlash.  November is coming.

Be sure to include the US in the list of "not a fair trial."  There are too many prisoners who have been released from death row because of dna evidence (convicted before dna technology was common.)

I'm 100% in favor of the death penalty if the trial is fair and an honest effort has been made to clear the accused.

It's a given that we're going to execute innocent people.  I've always thought of the innocents as victims of war.  If a war is waged against you, then you fight.  Yes, innocents will die, but the alternative is worse.

What goes around comes around.  It would certainly amaze me if any of these alleged innocents ended up on death row as a first offense punishment.  I could be wrong as I often am though.
