The Republican Party was founded 150 years ago on the very progressive ideas of western expansion through homesteading and no expansion of slavery to new lands.

This was radical for the time.

They became more radical yet four years later with the nomination of a man for President who stated that "A house divided against itself cannot stand."

150 years ago, the Democratic party had a platform of "non-interference by congress with slavery in state and territory"

The Demos have gone from conservative and shifted left, the Republicans have gone from a platform of social progessives to that of social conservatives.

Gee Strk...

Your source must have a tape recorder in the Oval Office in order to be able to quote Dubya so accurately.

Would love to hear what he and his lawyer talked about last week.

Think it goes something like this...

Dubya: "Gee Wally, I think I might be in trouble"

Wally the Lawyer: "Why do you say that Dubya."

Dubya: "Well, I haven't quite been telling the truth to the American people. That damn Ex Ambassador Wilson caught me telling another lie and embarrashed me in front of my MOMMY and my DADDY! That rat bastard liberal! I got so angry - I did a very bad thing"

Wally the Lawyer: "Oh attacking another country is not so bad. Those 3rd world countries are part of the Evil empire, it's ok to kill hundreds of thousands of women and children as long as they are not white.

Dubya: "well ok, but that's not the reason, I did do that for oil and to make my Daddy and my self RICH! No, I've betrayed the trust my country has given me, by telling revealing classified secrets to the press. But I did it for a good reason! I had to get back at that mean truth telling do-gooder Wilson. Yep! Dog gone it, he deserved what's coming to him. So, any way, I told a reporter his wife worked for the CIA, and what's worse. The VP, SoD and my CoS are also in on it."

[Silence...]

Wally the Lawyer: "Hmmm, that's not so bad. You can pardon your VP, pardon your SoD, and pardon your Cos. Just like your daddy did for Casper before he was indicted or even testified."

Dubya: "But what about me? I don't want to go to jail! I got a war on Terriors to run! My Righ Wing God Fearing supporters need me to fight against liberalism, freedom of the right wing press to sprew their hatred for everything non-conservative, the right to only Christian Prayer in school, and besides there's homosexuals in dem jails! And I'm afraid of homomsexuals! Can I declare the special prosecutor and all the democrats enemy combatants?"

Wally the Lawyer: "That might be a little over the top"

Wally The Lawyer: "I know, declare your self  temporarily incompacitated, you know babble your words and drool, that's not so hard for you too do. oh say for about a 1 minute, just long enough for your VP to become president and pardon you!"

Dubya: "Yah that's the ticket!! By the way, want to help me blow up France!

Wally The Lawyer: "Darn tooten I do... YEEHAW!"

not exactly - the republicans were the party of abolition and the southern democrats promoted slavery while the northern democrats tolerated it.  The parties re-aligned along racial lines culminating in Civil Rights act of 1964 when the southern social conservative democrats (dixiecrats) left in disgust to join the GOP.  So you could say that the parties have switched places on african/america issues.

The Goldwater/conservative GOP was fiscally conservative and used that basis for years to attack "tax and spend" liberals and "big government"  however the dems have taken the mantle of fiscal conservatism starting with the Clinton years, and the GOP starting with Reagan and continuing with the Bushes was willing to run huge deficits - "borrow and spend"

Not exactly... a majority of Republicans voted for the 1964 civil rights act.  House Republicans voted for the bill 138 to 34, while the total Senate vote was 73 to 27, with 21 Democrats and only 6 Republicans voting “no”.  Republicans voted a greater percentage in favor of CRA1964 than demos.

As a matter of record, in 26 major civil rights votes after 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 percent of the votes, a majority of Republicans favored civil rights in over 96 percent of the votes.

So there was no reason for racially motivated Demos to turn Republican.  Dixiecrats of Thurmond's ilk left the Demos long before '64, split of the Dixiecrats happened in 1948.

The 1854 Republican party platform did not advocate an end to slavery, just and end to the expansion of it to new territories.  The Democrats did not split until the vote of 1860, which is the reason Lincoln won the election.

I heard Bush say he stole the WMD's from Iraq and they are stashed at his Texas ranch. WERE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See how easy it is to post something like that? What makes it not true? Why because it isn't on some website? That has "resources" that are aides from the White House. How you know I'm not in the White House right now and just heard him say it? And media of any type streches the truth. Lets say for one cold minute in hell I beleive this. If a "aide" says I think I heard Bush say this. It will be shown as it was a part of history. And lets say these "aides" did say this do you think they would see the light of day again?

Jeesus, you all jump off the cliff like a buncha lemmings without even checking the source to see if its legit.  Just cause it's written doesn't make it true or even close to it.
