agreed I laugh at that statement too.

I wouldn't say that calling hockey soccer on ice is really an insult in the "manly sports" category.

rpm, are you going to offer up what you consider to be more manly than either hockey or soccer?

Certainly not football, where a bunch of 350lb slobs in tight pants and tighter jerseys rub bellies for a few seconds, then take a 25 second breather before rubbing bellies again.

Or basketball, where if you get a little slap on the arm they STOP THE WHOLE GAME so that you can get your free shots at the basket.

Or were you going to suggest baseball - where to even begin.

Why don't you lace up and put some ice time in with those gay hockey players and report back how you showed them what a real man is? :D

For the record:
Hockey: Gay Canadian version of Soccer. (Football for you Euro's)
Baseball: Fun to play, dreadful to watch. Still beats the snot out of Cricket.
Basketball: Fun to play, dreadful to watch. Bunch of wannabe gangstas that limp off after ANY contact...pfffft!
 NFL: (See Basketball)
World League of American Football: Who was the moron that thought this was a good idea? Extreemely dreadful to watch.
WNBA: (See World League of American Football)
 Golf: (See Insomia Cure)
 Hunting: Manly
 Fishing: Manly
 Motorsports: Manly
 Rugby: Manly

I'll give ya' Rugby.

And motorsports so long as we're not talking about the endless-left-turn variety.

Nothing wrong with hunting or shooting sports in general - but not really a manliness differentiator. Other than the biatholon, women can compete on par with men. Particularly when it comes to tracking and shooting  game. No specific manliness to that.

How, exactly would you differentiate between golf and fishing in the cure for insomnia category? I hope you are at least refering to the standing-in-the-river version and not the sitting in a boat with sonar version.

Nah - I still say you should lace 'em up and spend some ice time explaining to  some hockey players how sissified they are.

I'd say any sport with the likelyhood of death if you make a mistake is manly, i.e. motorsports.

As for fishing, I should have indicated participation, not viewing. My bad.

As for lacing them up...When you come to Texas and tie your hand to a 2000 lb Bramaha Bull and get on his back for 8 seconds...we'll talk.

Still don't see anything manly about fishing. My 11 year old daughter loves it and isn't half bad - even at picking the correct tackle (of course, we're talking about standing-in-the-river fishing and not the even more unmanly sitting in the boat type).

(I don't recall ever declaring that bull riding was a "ghey" sport.)

Texas!?! Well, you should have said so in the first place. Yes, the Dallas Stars are a bunch of girls. I stand corrected. :rofl

Never understood this sport. Where I grew up, we castrate animals that act like this. ;)

Isn't that punishment just a little too harsh for riding a bull??

its 1 thing to skate around and hit or get hit....

but I was a goalie....I was lookin at that black rubber comin at me at 80 to 100 MPH.....

1 time I got a close in slap shot(what is called the slot or top circle)....my reaction was correct...but the rubber had a different idea......I just had time enough to turn my body a little.....enough force in the puck to completely shatter my protection down there....and Blue Purple skin on the inside of my leg close to my dingy.....and i mean very close

didn't play for 1 week....could hardly walk anyways....but my future almost ended with 1 little gay slapshot

We had this player, Kenny that used to have this absolutely vicious slapshot. He was about midway between blue line and goalie and he let it go. It hit Leo, the goalie, right in his face mask. It bent the mask, smashed his glasses, and cut up his face a bit. Awesome shot.

Actually, soccer can be very exciting when the players are fresh. Hockey has line changes on the fly, and this keeps the action going. A three minute shift in hockey is a long one and the player is exhausted. I notice they don't change players much in soccer and they seem to get tired and the action goes in spurts. When I start to see players walking up field, I know they are tired. When soccer action is up and down the field it is fun to watch. If they can add to the rosters and make more substitutions, I think the game would be more fun to watch. Make the bench area about 30 feet long with a line that must be crossed before the sub player can go on.

If you use the word "tackle" then in all likelyhood yer not talking about "standing-in-the-river-fishing" ( <--- heh). Most likely standing on the bank with a scale and a club (blarg).

Manly:
1) Hockey
2) Boxing
3) NCAA Football
4) NFL Football

All the rest of you Yanks take notice...THIS is a good analysis of the game.

No "girley" comments...just a solid logical argument about the weaknesses and merits of the game.
