Or the third option: leave off the fan, prop, and spinner and set them on the ground, add a mechanic figure, some grass and dirt, and call it a diorama for a forward field servicing.

Ok, another idea, a "spacer" between the cowling and the fuselage.  Add some sheet styrene and paint accordingly.  Shouldn't be obvious, would it?

if the cowling was one peice maybe, but impossible here.

I'm going to cut the cowling apart and recess the motor back.
