I'm guessing that corrosion control wasn't as big a deal then as now.

Actually I didn't want any corrosion, but I've been working so long at it that it started to peel off

Nice weathering job!

The peeling silver paint - exactly how did you accomplish it? I've got a few planes I may try and weather a bit.

Spray the whole model (every part you want to have weathered) with aluminium color.
Seal the aluminium with a coat of Future (Carpet wax/polisher).
Then you can apply your base color and let it dry for some 4 hours.

Take some basic painters tape, press it slightly on the part you want to have weathered and rip it off again.
You will see that some paint will get off which will result in the corrosion effect.

The Future is needed so you won't rip off the aluminium coat which you want to have visible underneath.

This method really is no-brainer proof! It worked GREAT the first time I used it (actually on this model)
Because it worked so good I got a little....overexcited and accidently added too much corrosion...

You'll find that it works very well!

FANTASTIC!

The Catalina and Short Sunderland were my favrourite WW2 'planes.

Hope they make an appearance in AH sometime soon.

Lol, actually I've run into a slight problem that I have to contemplate......

The kit looks great, the model is painted, gear is painted and even added some detail like brake lines. Canopy is done and looks clear as glass. The plane looks good if I do say so myself.

All is good and I was ready to claim victory...... until I went to install the final peice, the Prop/ ducted fan/ and Spinner to the engine.

It turns out that the engine sits about 1/4 out too far into the cowel, causing the fan behind the prop to stick out past the cowel instead of beging behind it.. It's been sitting for a few days...... I pick it up and look at it a few times, then put it down and wait for inspiration on how to fix it.

I guess that would almost be considered a rookie mistake on my part...... the kit had severe fit problems and I should have checked that part before I assembled the cowel....sigh

You either need to stretch the cowel or lop off a section of the engine. Can't do the former, so get yer Bic lighter out and cover the damage with the cowel. It's what I'd do and I'm an expert.

lol Nash, thats pretty perceptive of you.

Actually I have an idea, which is to modify the motor. I can only reach the front of the motor though... it will be tough.

The only other option I have is to cut the cowel apart ( it;s not one peice, it's in about 6 peices )and get to the engine as a whole......but damn, that would really suck.
