Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of good fly guys out there that work as a team and give their all to defend the goon.  However there is an equal amount of the other type.

Goon drivers however do get good perks for base captures.  They just have to land at a friendly base for the perk points.  They show up as bomber points as I recall though.

just to let you know i flew 50 goon runs in my first week of playing so dont try to downgrade me

i know what it is like to fly a goon it is boring and your the 1 target but flying a goon is easy and they dont need to do much but just fly in and hope nobody sees them then just pull up over town and drop troops and there job is done while Us so called fighter jocks are the ones bringing the town down the base cap and everthing

but the Jabos bombers fighters deserve  that WTG 3 times more then 1 guy driving the Bus in

Simshell, the original post by Xargos stated:

Quote
Though I hardly ever fly a goon, I feel goon pilots should get some recognition.
[/b]

You said:

Quote
why all the goon did was give a ride for drunks

the jabos fighters and bombers did the work not the goon.
[/b]

I did not mean to offend you by my comment, however, I read your statement as indicating that the goon drivers don't deserve any recognition, and by your statement that all the work was done by "jabos fighters and bombers" that they alone deserve the credit.

We all know that a statement like that is incorrect.  The "jabos fighters and bombers" are wasted without the goon or M-3s, just as the reverse is true.  But what it all boils down to, and what the original topic stated is that the players that deliver the goods deserve some recognition.

My statements were directed to those pilots that forget what all their fine flying was intended to do.  You can strafe, bomb and vulch till hell freezes over and not accomplish a thing without the troops which some players spend countless hours trying to deliver for little or no recognition.

Pats on the back and "well done"s may not be needed, but they are greatly appreciated.

Typical goon flight.

Heard a couple people ask for troops.
Had to take off 2 /12 sectors away because no troops at nearest base. (Hope rooks can keep their attention span long enough this time)

Should I announce it on country? No, could be spies.
( I'll probably get within 2 miles and someone else who was afraid to to announce it will drop ahead of me.)

2 sectors away.
No squad mates there so I can't get any kind of report. (hmm, there is a ton of rooks there, why is that red bar getting bigger?. (These trees are just great, who put these here?)
Try to tell passing friendly to let them know goon is comming in. (3rd guy finaly ackowladges)

1 sector away.
Where did that guy come from??!! I don't think he sees me, he's climbing.) '"Anyone know how the city is at xx?" No answer.

Almost there
"I got troops here, city in sight, how does it look"? reply: " I think there are some buildings up maybe a gv or 2 there" (Why did you guys ask for a goon for?) "Could someone check?"

Minutes later:
Rook:"Ok bring the troop in"  "Ok, on the way"
(I see dots out there to east, no friendly on dar.
Why is everyone at the base?)  Rooks: "yak upping"  "Kill him! I got troops here" ( yak still comming, 10 guys on him, still comming, wth)
(OK they got him, dropping troops, don't blow it or you'll be the biggest idiot) " Troops out"
"wtg"  ( go troops go) "building up!, get it". "we got it , wtg ply"  "wtg guys good job"

See, not boring at all. Far more interaction with your country mates than trynig to get the next kill or dropping the troops at the base.  (wtg jabo ace, now we have to fly even further next time)

Goon flying and capture is almost totaly depenent on your country mates.  When you get to the city the goon is the most important plane there and almost everyone is working together to get you in.  For a few minutes you belong to a new squad and everyone there is a member and people you never heard of or talked to are trying to help you.
Don't miss out on the fun. :p

Isnt this very much like real life?

The Fighter Jocks get all the glory.

Transport Pilots,  Thou vital to the war effort,  Dont get the glamor or recognition that the Fighter pilots do.   Yet victory isnt possible without them.

Its a bit like that in the game,  Fighter Kills get your name in lights.   The best a supply or troop run will get you is some WTGs and a cold beer when you land.     Anyone notice Fighter pilots have all the Hot wives too.   ;)

Recognize the goons
« Reply #21 on: July 19, 2004, 01:34:34 AM »
The goon drivers are very under appreciated. Ya get the pin heads in the Jabos that take down the town, run out of ammo, , then run out of fuel hehe, then they all start screaming and begging for someone to up a goon that will get there well after the intitial cap on the field is gone.

Goon drivers fly slow undefended airplanes that many times it will take a repeated effort to get the goon in.

Why not recognize them? Or why not stop recognizing anyone at all? This is a give and take type deal; You can't take the town without the Jabos doing there work and you sure won't take one without a goon.

WHY NOT HTC? Is it that difficult?

Goon drivers get many points for base capture and also obtain lower rank number in the bomber category due to base capture being part of the rank system. M3 base capture does the same in Vehicle category. You can drop 100-200 lower in Bomber and Vehicle with a couple of base captures.
The ones not being recognized are resupply drivers. Resupply gets points but is not part of the rank system so you can run resupply and lose in ranking.

Hmmm...don't know what fields you've been tryin' to get at in YOUR bus, Simshell, but I've never seen "30" of 'em, and most times it's tough to get more than one or possibly two to get to a field. Congratulations on your ability to recruit 30 for the same target field. Any tips you can share with us on how to convince that many guys to get in the "race"? :)

For certain Troop carrying goon drivers dont get the recognition they deserve.
By contrast. the Jabo pilots killiong the city probably get too much.
Feild captures are a team effort, and no side deserves more recognition then the other.
You can blast the hell out of a town allyou want. but if no goon arrives you've accomplished nothing.
Just as you can fly a goon to a base but if nobody took the town down the trip was just as pointless.

The goon drivers often have to bring troops with as few people knowing as possable.
They RARELY if ever get any kind of escort and when they do the escort they get is typically of poor quality.
A few posts back someone mentioned
"
2 sectors away.
No squad mates there so I can't get any kind of report. (hmm, there is a ton of rooks there, why is that red bar getting bigger?. (These trees are just great, who put these here?)
Try to tell passing friendly to let them know goon is comming in. (3rd guy finaly ackowladges)"
What he forgot to say is that third guy, well yea he aknowledges. Sometimes he'll even agree to provide scort. But then he often just flies away and leaves you to fend for yourself anyway.
If your lucky maybe the 4th or 5th guy will provide cover for you. IF your lucky.
IF you make it to the base half the time the towns not anywhere near destroyed (Due to that super job the jabo pilots  want all the WTG's for)
And 49 of the 50 pilots there are more interested in  being in position so they can get the next vulch before someone else does then in making sure the town is down. Or worse yet  being in position to get that goon hunting 190 that just flew in on the deck from the next base over
Cat tell you how many times I've seen goons popped or popped goons myself just as they are getting to the feild simply because everyone was more interested in vulching then making sure the goon arrived alive.
IF the towns been leveled and IF the acks been killed it usually goes something like this..
Pilot 1-"Hey you stole my vulch"
pilot 2- "hehe shoulda moved in faster. Towns flat Where's the goon?"
pilot 3-"goons almost here"
goon pilot- " got a goon 5 miles out, is the town down/De-acked? enemy dot east"
pilot 5- "spit upping" (followed by 8 of the ten attacking pilots racing in for the vulch the other two couldnt get into position in time)
pilot 4" I got him"
pilot 6-"WTG pilot4"
Goon pilot-" got a goon 5 miles out, is the town down/De-acked??? enemy dot inbound from the east!"
Pilot 7- "rgr goon pilot Towns ready..ANOTHER spit upping!!"
( followed by 9 of the ten attacking pilots racing in for the vulch the other 1 couldnt get into position in time)
Goon pilot-"rgr Troops now 4 miles out make sure the towns clear.. LOW ENEMY DOT COMMING IN FROM THE EAST!!"
Pilot 8- "YAK upping!"( followed by all 10 attacking pilots racing in for the vulch, pilots 1 and 4 auger while trying)
Goon pilot- Troops 2 miles out..LOW 190, LOW 190 EAST!!!"
pilot 9 "rgr 190, LALA upping! someone get the 190! (8 remaining pilots race for the vulch and miss, nobody goes for the 190.)
Goon pilot-"190s spotted me, NEED SOME COVER GUYS TROOPS ARE HERE"
Pilot 10 "rgr on the 190. On the way... SPIT UPPING"(promptly augers going for the vulch)
Pilot 2" get the 190! Troops are here!!"
Goon pilot "Almost to the town with troops 190 all over me GET HIM!"
Pilot 3-" get the 190 guys!"
Pilot 5-"I'm going for the 190, Yak upping!
Goon pilot- "Troops are..."( BOOM!)
Pilot 5- "goons dead"
Pilot 6- "did he get troops out?"
Pilot 5- "I have vis on 6 troops. Make that 4 190 just got two"
Now remaining pilots go after and finally kill the 190.
Goon driver reups and tries again. often with the same result.

I have alot of respect for the goon drivers. Its a sefless job Your doing what you can for the greater good often with little or poor support. They get nowhere near the credit they deserve for their dedication while the Jabo pilots tend to get too much of the glory
though I've noticed that the Gv crowd tends to be a bit more appreciative and protective of the M3s then theire airborne counterparts. both in supply runs and in troop carrying

THE WTG's on a feild capture are for everyone. It took everyone one to take it. One couldnt do it without the other

Also the guys willing to resupply bases deserve a big and WTG also. They rarely if ever get any recognition at all. Yet it is often because of them that a difference is made in the capability of being defencive or offencive.

That's EXACTLY the reason I don't fly goons anymore.  Nobody gives a **** about a base capture.  They just want the place deacked and capped so they can vulch and pad their scores.  As evidence I submit the numerous "Vulch light on at " messages you see scroll through the chat buffer.  If there's 10 pilots over a field I'd say MAYBE 3 are actually there to capture the field and support the goon.  That's being terribly generous.
