Is it a memory leak? Or is it storing new textures as you encounter different aircraft with different skins?

I think the game only loads textures as it needs them.

Memory leak and skins

Has nothing to do with skins, in my case.  I flew one airplane only last night.   Memory bleed was there, and sometimes fast.

It would be nice if everyone tracked this memory leak who is getting the CTD's.

I have an Nvidia card (FX 5200 Ultra) with 128 MBs. Last night I noticed that AHII reported that I had 59.2 mbs of memory available and all 59.2 MBs were being used.

No CTD, everything ran fine.

But why did it say I have 59.2 when I have a 128 MB card? I started AHII from a clean boot, no other applications started before AHII.

Gentlmen, I do not belive there is a video memory leak in AH. That is not to say there couldn't be a bug when you run out. Or that there isn't a driver mem leak.

The increase in the vidmem used is simply you seeing more textures as time goes on.

AA is anti-aliasing. Some obscure video adjustment thingy-mo-bob.

I to am having memory creep thing happening. I start out using around 70 and creep up to 98 or so, then my text typing/channel selector thing disappears, then the text in the buffer goes away. Once the whole plane selection list disappeared.  I shutdown AH2 and relog and all is well. This all occured last night post patch 2.

I'm using a Nvidia Ti4200 with 128m. I usually get 40+ frames.

You may be right, but we are observing significant failures of text buffer, etc...leading to CTD when we get over that 90Meg used level.

If not a leak, then a mighty odd coincidence, nonetheless.

I have the same issue - first time I noticed it was Sat Evening (squad night) after about an hour and half was changing planes and when I spawned on runway - gunsight was a solid white box and framerate had dropped to below 10.  Relogged and framerate was back to 100 and every thing was fine.  Then last night was defending several diferent bases and started noticing that vid mem was slowly increasing (but steadily).  Had seen some increases over time with other versions but they were more random and happened in chunks and seemed to be related to adding more textures but they never caused a problem even if I was on for several hours.  But this was different, it just steadily went up by sbout .1 very  minute. I kept watching as I kept  flying and fighting.  Eventually, I upped a tiger at V38 help defend there when I first left the hanger had 100 used of 117.3 avail framerates were still hovering near 100 unless there were numerous planes buzzing aroung and a lot of smoke but even then framerates were staying in 50-60 range.  Sitting by the edge of the tower sniping incoming gv's I watching vid mem steady increase until it got to about 115 then framerates started dropping, started have small freezes and typing in text buffer became imposible.  As mem usage increased to 117 framerates dropped to 1-2 and the game was freezing solid for several seconds at a time.  As soon as could get the clipboard up I exited and relogged.  As soon as i reentered everything was fine mem usage was about 70 but slowly (and steadly) increasing  had to log off before it passed 100 but it having no ill effects at that level.

I know you don't think there is a memory leak but it sure looked and felt like a leak as there was never any up and down no fluxuation just a steady increase in  usage

I have an ATI 9500 Pro 128m

Whether its a leak or not,  once my video memory usage hits just over 90MB a CTD will occur.

By changing my graphic detail from 512 to 256, my initial video usage went from ~60MB to ~20MB.  As a result, I didn't suffer any CTD's last night.  I suspect that if I stayed on long enough to hit the magical 90MB threshold I would have CTDed.  That probably would have taken a long time.

Obvioulsy, this is not a fix, but a  potential work around for those experiencing problems.

Ditto here I was playing the past two days and noticed after watching my frame rates that my Video Memory appeared to leak off and after it went above about 85% of the available memory used I could expect a CTD soon after...

I run on

Dell 4300 P-IV
512 Mb RAM
NVidia GForce 128 MB
SoundBlaster 128
Dell 19" Monitor
LogiTech Wingman Stick

I have my sound acceleration backed off to 3/4 and I have my detail inside the game way down beyond half....

I have also seen the warping issues people have encountered although I would say that has more to do with my Internet Connection than actual game performance....

I was having some problems.

Mine were related to a corrupted or bad video driver.

Was getting CTD's and got a couple of baabaa47e -->( would you believe this was a memory address lol) errors lol.

As someone said they thought at 1st it was someones handle lol.

Anyway Skuzzy suggested a total video drivers uninstall reboot reinstall reboot and it has fixed the error so far.

Note I used the ATI uninstall utility!  It's kinda hidden within the ATI folder.  But they have one now.

Was online for over 4 hours and 2 hours of that with over 93 mg used on my vid memory and not a burp, stutter, or glitch.

might also want to check your monitor drivers?  Earlier was having some slight graphic's glitches and fixed it with an install of the proper monitor driver.

ATI 9800 pro 128 here.

At 1024 texture I ran out of Vid mem after an hour or so and had a severe loss of frame rate about an hour later requiring Alt F4 to exit.

At 512 texture the vid mem usage started lower but was over 100meg after an hour and still rising.

This is with an GF4 4800se 128mb running 56.72 drivers.

Should all the textures remain in vid mem when using AH2 or should it only load those that are needed ?

As it is to run at 1024 you seem to need a 256meg card even though a 128 meg card produces otherwise acceptable performance
