Video card memory bleed
« on: June 21, 2004, 08:59:09 AM »
Several in my squad have noticed that the memory card useage increases slowly with time.   It starts around 50 Meg and increases slowly (over 1 hour or two) to something around 90 Megs.  (This is on 128 Meg cards).   Once the memory useage gets above 90, we have seen CTD's, loss of text buffer, gunsight turning to a white box, tower glitches, etc.

Skuzzy - worth a look?

I meant to say the video card memory increases....not the memory card...

I have found the exact same thing while flying last night.

Mem avail was like 91.3 and Mem used was 91. At this point, the text buffer went blank and my HUD gunsight was completely white. Shortly after that I CTDed.

My card also has 128 Meg onboard. I am not seeing the same Memory used now in AH II as I did in AH II Beta. Beta was using in the 120Meg range.

Memory definitly goes away the longer you play
also manned ack at ports seems to be very tough when manned (1k egg dead on, got killed by manned ack on egress)

I will confirm similar... though I have 256 meg of video memory and wasn't anywhere near that... my text buffer disappeared... and when I landed and headed to a field... CTD. One of the only CTD I've had with AHII.

I played solid with 113 of 123 on my ATI 9700 pro  Cat 4.6s. Never say an increase in usage before my crashes ( 3 last night ).

Possible sound issue?

Was having sound loop lockups, CTD's, Connection loss, etc.  Saw in another thread reports of possible sound issue's using non stock AHII sounds.  Something about 8 bit vs 16 bit.

Tried putting all non AHII sound files in a backup file and using only AHII sounds from install.

No problems whatsoever (err well gotta talk with Skuzzy about my connect and possible packet loss issues maybe) for a little over 2 hours online.  Will continue oline later but so far, at least for me, it's starting to look like a sound issue in AHII.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

I am --- Radeon 9800.  One of my squaddies is also experiencing the same memory leak, but he does not have ATI (can't remember what he has).

Ok revision here.
As of the patch I downloaded around 9:00 pm last night EST
I too am experiancing memory bleed. though very very very slowly
went from 77.2M used to 84.9 in a little over 3 hours.

add to that Framerates have again become wildly unstable dropping as low as 21fps and staying in the 20's for quite sometime before shooting back up to 55-79 then back down again. Now getting framerates that run from 21 fps to 79 fps.
Doesnt seem to be any ryme or reason for the jumps as often nothing changes a whole lot either visually or audably.
and seems to jump around reguardless of what im doing. Be it in a furball or alone.

Whatever ya fixed..unfix it please LOL

man, mines pegged 122 avail/122 used. (fluctuates from 117-122 mem available)

But I'm not really having any CTD issues / crashes right now.

HT said I should drop the memory down to 512, but I'm being stubborn and still using 1024.

I dropped my screen resoultion down to 1028x1024(that correct?)
from 1600x1200. Now im hitting at steady 75 FR in the air with low 50s on the ground. I was getting between 28-60 in 1600x1200.
I found out though that it's not my video card holding me back, my monitor only supports 60hz at 1600x1200. So, Now im looking for a new monitor...wondering why my eyes hurt after staring at it so long... evidently, 85hz is a new standard for large resoultions.
