first let me say hello to all.  ive been playing for about 4 days and so far i really enjoy the realistic action.

#1 convergence:  I have been flying a 109 (read that i should pick 1 plane and stick with it as its easier to learn then trying alot of different planes)   What should my setting be at? ive tried 400 and 600 but my hits are few and far between.  From what ive read here, most kill shots are between 200-400.  is this where my setting should be?  seems very difficult to get in that close without my opponate turning and me loosing him.

#2. evasion (sp) it seems as though every time I get a ch6 call its too late.  I try to check my backdoor often but once they are there loosing them seems to be impossable for me.  I dive, turn (been trying turning with rudders to increase turn rate) but usually im toast.  suggestions?

For convergence, its all about how you want to deal with your opponent.

For example, if you are able to get in close on a regular basis, set your convergence for 300.
My settings are usually 500-600 as I am not too good at manuevering yet.

As for evading a 6 oclock baddie, it depends on your plane. If they're in a faster plane, odds are you can evade him by getting slower.
Let him get to about 600 (800 if he's high speed) and yank back on the stick, cutting throttle to half or 1/4, drop flaps and then slowly nose down. Usually you'll make a "hump" which he'll attmempt to follow but when soars down when you're going down, he'll over shoot and thats when you raise flaps, punch the throttle and nose down.

If you're in a manueverable fighter, trying decreasing thottle to increase turn rate and add flaps. If you're in a high roller (FW, Jug, etc), try snap rolls to confuse him and lose speed.

Now what I recommend is find an AH friend. Wing up with people. Having one guy that can follow your six and cover it build's confidence.

And remember, if you're shot down don't get angry. Take a deep breath and think about what happened in the last 10 seconds before getting shot down.

welcome to aces high Odi.

1.
convergence in 109 is not very important since the guns are nose mounted (unless you use the gondola pods which I wouldn't recommend normaly). This is one of the 109's advantages.
The 109 guns are very hard to hit with and the firepower isn't impressive (20mm option. with the 30mm you have to stick your spinner into the target's oscar and fire in order to hit).

2.
6 calls have a delay. after the player hits the 6call button, it waits a sec before sending the message and then you have internet delay.

If you are a beginner to online flight sims, concentrate on not letting the enemy get on your 6 in the first place. This is called situational awareness (SA). keep looking around mapping the bandits and friendlies in your head. decide which is the biggest threat and react to it.
Reversing a bandit riding your 6 is a tricky business, which you will learn later on. SA is WAY more valueble.

actually you should fly different planes....not just the 109

gunnery is way different between .50cals and 20 mm's.....

1st you should learn WHICH plane suits your style...then hook up with a VET of said plane.....some are always willing too help you...if not...just stick to his 6 and try to see HOW he does things....that way you can practice your SA

thanks for the tips.

one more question.  i have my hat on my joystick set to check my back door but it shows the back of my seat and I have to hit page up to move the view so i can see anything.  is there anyway to set it so it will automaticly show above the seat?

The arrow and page up/down keys will move your head around the cockpit.  once you have a view you like, press F10 to save it.  It is best not to mess with the straight forward view and save it as it will adjust you virtual pilots line of sight away from where the gunsight is.

There is a key to restore the default view, but I can't remember what it is.  Have to search the help page or one of these other helpful gentlemen will provide it.

When you get your head position where you want it press f10 to save it. Every view position in every plane can be saved.

Hi Odi, the above is a link to a zip file with all views already adjusted. You can download it or set them up yourself, its not too hard.  'F10' will save the adjusted view and the 'home' key will get the default view back. If your getting the default view back, remember to hit 'F10' after you hit 'home' to save it.
