"As part of my police training, I got a one second stream of OC/CS spray in the face tonight.
Holy crap. "
When I went through my own training, I got a similar shot of it (it is required training to be able to carry it on duty in Ohio).
Nothing beyond minor irritation happened for awhile because I took somebody's advice and DID NOT BLINK (supposedly blinking stirs it around the eyes more)....but when it hit me...it hit me.
10 minutes after I got sprayed it finally hit me....essentially as Tarmac described. Yes I made a bad mistake and blinked a few times...OMG bad idea! The skin discomfort (strong burning feeling describes it well) is mild compared to the pain in the EYES....it feels like you are having nails driven through your eyes. AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO except wait.
The former US army/marine guys in the academy all agreed it was better to go through tear gas training than the OC spray.
Honestly it wasn't that bad. Yeah it hurts but it is only pain...no actual damage. I'd do it again

Except I'd bring an older shirt....it turns your nose into a snot factory, lol. It was sort of fun listening to everyone use their choice explectives in turn.
Me being the pragmatic sort of guy I am I then went and washed my face off with alcohol pads rather than water. Surprisingly it didn't make it hurt any worse (nobody would believe me on this), and I think it spared me later as I had no issues with it "re-activating" when I washed up at home.
Tarmac--
I advise against taking a shower in the morning, unless you like pain. If you do take one, try to avoid getting your face wet. I recommend taking a washcloth and washing your face off in the morning very carefully, taking great care to avoid the area around your eyes. Several of my academy mates were still having issues with it even a couple days later.
